Is the Class A at Menards the same quality (thickness, construction, etc..) as I'd get anywhere else (like from the advertisers on this forum for example)?

You get what you pay for. It all has to meet the same standards, but I believe there is some difference in materials used. I doubt with normal use that you would ever know it.

Depends on what standard you're talking about. ICC EXCEL is tested and listed to the ULC S-629 chimney standard which is tougher than minimum USA standard. The USA standard requires the chimney to withstand three 10-minute 2100°F chimney fires. The Canadian standard requires the chimney to withstand three 30-minute chimney fires, three times longer than the USA.

like home depot selling electrical wire it barely passes the ohms testing, there fore most manufactures reject it, and sells it to box stores yes it passed barely, but most commercial suppliers will not carry it
That's not true at all, barely passes the ohms testing is a stretch by any means, They sell a brand name class A pipe and many people have that brand and it is fine, you may like another brand for one reason or another but that brand is the same no matter where you buy it.

If Menards is still selling the Selkirk product, the quality is good. It is the chimney system that I used, and I was very happy with it.

I didn't feel that it was cheap in any way.

My Selkirk Metalbestos chimney is now 25 years old and still going strong. I inspect it carefully every year when I give it a good cleaning and its in great shape. I would use it again, if the need to construct a new chimney is there.
