Also, I know it sounds stupid and I didn't see it in this thread, is it dropping pellets into the pot? Are you getting power at the terminals where the igniter plugs in?

Running on battery will keep it burning continuously until you choose to shut it down.

I did not know that.

I thought it just extended the cycle times?

There are two systems in an AE platform stove that run on 110 volts. The igniter and the auto clean system. Obviously when operating on battery they do not have that power available. When running on battery it can display maintenance burn on the wall control and will not shut down until the thermostat is turned off. You can trick the stove into running continuously, i.e. if the igniter dies and you don't have a spare, by hooking up the battery and then hooking up a charger to the battery while the stove is unplugged from the wall.

MY AE shuts down for auto clean when in battery back up mode.

What I am not certain of is whether or not it actually did the auto clean.

Thanks for all your help guys, dealer just left a few hours ago after replacing control board, says its the first one hes had to replace since hes been selling the Mt Vernon. Sure is nice to be sitting in front of a fire again, supposed to be in high 20s tonight.

...unfortunately I probably wont be able to get the dealer here in a timely matter because of the holidays and the fact that he's about an hour drive from here.

See that wasn't so bad.

Glad it is workin for ya, was it the wall thermostat or the motherboard inside the stove?

After reading a current owner's manual it would appear that it does go to auto clean. I'm not sure it really does either. I will break out the battery and see what happens.

How long has he been selling them, I lost count of how many boards I've changed! lol

Not sure how long he's been selling the Quadrafire, but he's been in buisness a long time ,are defective motherboards a common problem with the Mt. Vernon? What would cause it to just go bad?

No control boards aren't an issue, the first couple years there were some issues that couldn't be addressed with the software that I use to diagnose the stoves. In relation to how many I have out I probably didn't really change all that many if you put it on a percentage basis. I sure hope I don't look like the hedgehog, well maybe just a little! ;-)

I thought there was a correlation between the avatar and the screen name?

Hi. I have a Mt Vernon AE pellet stove that won't light up. The error message says "missed ignition" and I end up with a pan full of pellets. Based on review of previous posts, it sounds like it is an ignitor. Is this hard to replace and how does one replace it?
