Feeling the Heat
Just purchased a 05 Englander 25-PDVC off Craigslist. It's throwing a E-2 and E-1 code.
I'm going to get real familiar with it tomorrow as I tear it down for a good cleaning and checking over stuff.
The guy I bought it from says the auger motor done did died. I did check it out and yes the burn pot auger is not turning. I do have lots to learn about this and with this site I don't see an issue fixing this thing and for $185.00 that I paid for the stove I don't think I can go wrong.

So I spent 3 hours cleaning the heck out of this dirty beast. I did find the burn pot auger gave up the ghost. Switched the hopper auger motor to the feeder pot location and turned it on after throwing a handful in the burn pot. It fired right up, all the blowers kicked on and then went to an E-2 code which I think was due to the computer noticing there was not a motor for the hopper.
I ordered a motor for the hopper from that place in Michigan for 73.00 shipped and had it the next day. Have yet to have time to put it in and run it again in the back of the truck..... :-)
I should get to that on Wednesday.
Up next is finding the best location in my house for this badboy and ordering a few gaskets. I pulled the burnpot out to clean it good so I'm guessing I need a new gasket for that. How much of a deal is it to not replace the auger gaskets?

Also how long should the burn pot auger run when it goes into shut down?
Mine likes to run.

It will run until temperature of exhaust is under 90 (There is a sensor), I believe. The auger and combustion fan will turn off together.

No, not exactly. The E-2 code was set due to a lack of fuel in the burn pot. Even though you put a handful of pellets in there, it wasn't enough for the control board to think there was a good fire. If the auger truly was the problem, then you should be good to go when it's replaced.

As for the E-1 code, that comes on due to lack of vacuum from the combustion fan running. Have you made sure the vacuum line is clear?

So I replaced the auger motor today filled the hopper with a few lbs of pellets and fired it up. The first attempt led to an E-2 again guessing since the augers were completely empty it may have timed out before it saw any decent amount of pellets? After it errored I unplugged cleaned most of the pellets out of the burn pot and restarted it. Within 4 minutes or so I had smoke and a fire going in 6 or so. The room blower kicked on after a bit and I ran the rest of the pellets through without any issues.
Anywho the burn pot feeder auger fired up as soon as I plugged it in. I'm thinking this maybe a problem.

BTW, there is a diagnostic you can run to check all the components:

If you can't figure it out, I'd highly recommend giving Englander a call....ask for Mike Holton. If you change the title of this thread to include the make & model of the stove ("05 Englander 25-PDVC throwing a E-2 and E-1 code"), he might see it and give you some help on the forum.

It's a good idea to add the make & model to your signature line on the forum too.

I've ran that test when I started to fix this.

your bottom auger is supposed to run constantly, that is normal. The top auger on the other hand runs intermittenly . Whenever I get an e-1 code it is always my vacuum hose . sometimes the end that coneccts to the combustion blower gets dryed out and cracks. if thats the case just cut like one inch off and refasten. also make sure the lines are clear.

The OP states that the bottom auger starts as soon as you plug it in, not as soon as you press the "on" button.....something is not right.

Not 100% sure, but; If the stove doesn't know if it was running before a power failure - it will run the combustion fan and bottom auger and look for heat at the exhaust. This some times fills the burn pot with unburt pellets.
Or maybe I'm wrong.

Hello

Great price and a loose connection or broken hose, If that is all it needs you really lucked out!

With a little Stove Bright Satin Black stove paint, that will look like a brand spanking new stove!

E-2/E-1 right at start is actually a vacuum loss failure, the E-2 shows first due to the stove being in startup when the failure occurs so its "fail to start" due to "vacuum loss" treat it as a straight "E-1" in troubleshooting.

1. does the exhaust blower start if yes, check vac hose from switch to exhaust chamber, trim off any damaged portion to fix leak. if this doesnt get it , check wires from switch to board for connection and proper placement , wires should be on the "c" and the "no" positions with the "nc" empty , hose should be on the "-" port (the gray one) and the black port should be empty.

if no on the exhaust blower starting, then the exhaust blower not starting is the issue
