It was ugly today... I cut into the first one and must have hit an artery. I ran inside to get some quick clot but it was too late. She bled like a stuck pig! After splitting, my yard looked more like a slaughter house than a wood lot. When I finished, I had a wierd craving for bacon.

Anyone see this before? I assume it is some sort of fungus?

I've seen red in box elder before but nothing like that. Is the wood punky at all?

Thanks....That hat I was thinking. I have a ton of box elder on my property but its been awhile since I've cut any.

I'd be tempted to use a bit of that for carving.

Just too pretty to burn......

Second thoughts that's probably going a bit far... ;-)

Looks like ya got some box elder!

x1

Pretty, ain't it? We got several box elders free this past summer and they all looked like that inside.

When you get it split and stacked and it starts to dry, you will want to tie it down. When dry it will try to float away in a stiff breeze.

yup, not a great reputation for burning. Shoulder season wood. It was easy and free.

Yes, box elder is in the maple family and most give it a bad rap. It is not comparable to oak but it still burns and gives you heat. Not my favorite but I've burned several of those.

With the lack of cold temps so far this winter, I should've cut up some more shoulder season wood. Always looking for the best wood which in hindsight could be boxelder. I find it much easier to control the heat in the house on the warm days with the softwood. :)

Box elder for sure. That's what I've been burning lately.

I always jump on the boxelder threads.....

I've ripped and cut all boxelder off my land :)

If I see a sapling, I'll tear it out too!

man any chance u could ship me some of that in a flat rate box?..id pay for shipping...i got a buddy who turns wood...and man id love to give him some of that for a gift

i wish I had a better camera. The red color was impressive.

I thought it was impressive with the camera you used. I have never seen any wood like that.

I'm tellin' ya! I'm just about out of my shoulder season wood and I still have the spring to deal with! I'm hoping to have a bunch of pine ready for next year.

I second that. Id make some sort of wall display with one of the thickest parts of the tree.

Never knew it was used for so much! May need to cut into some of the trees on my property.
