My PF100, which worked fine last season, is misbehaving, First it ignored the thermostat for the first burn. Got nice and toasty in the house. Then it would fail to relight. Now I can't get it to auto light or manual light. The most suspicious symotom is that the feed starts up as soon as I turn in the furnace. I think it's supposed to wait until the ESP reads 165°. So it can't light because it's constantly dumping pellets into the burn pot. It eventually gives me 5 blinks, which means auto ignite failed. Any thoughts on this? It does stop feeding after 1 minute in test mode, but the feed motor immediately turns on if I move the dial away from test.

Tell us all about the cleaning you gave it after last year's usage?

Two things that I can suggest:

1. Turn off the main power switch in the unit and wait a few minutes. This in the past has re-set the unit, and
it would start up with no problems.
2. Clean that ESP probe. One time a dirty probe caused me the same problem you are encountering.

I always start in the auto mode, and then when up and running switch to manual and keep it there till the
next time I clean the unit.

Thanks for the responses. I replaced the ignitor and it lit itself again. The cleaning was pretty comprehensive. I emptied the ash bin, obviously, scraped the burn pot, removed the plates and cleaned out around the heat exchange pipes and then reamed out the heat exchange pipes, since they had become clogged with ash. Oops. Apparently that part of the furnace hadn't been cleaned in a while, if ever. I removed the cleaning chain and handle, and jammed a vacuum hose down each pipe. It was very satisfying. I also cleaned out the fines in the auger.

So now I have a running furnace. What I don't have is a furnace that responds to the thermostat. With the furnace set to Automatic, it just keeps on running until I turn it to Off. I've checked the thermostat wires at both ends, they look like good connections. I've learned a lot about the system in the last week, but this part is still a mystery.
