Feeling the Heat

My stove has been running fine. I had it on high for the last couple of hours and it was fine. I went to lower it to medium and I pressed the wrong button on the control board. I think I pressed the on/off button. Now, the auger doesn't seem to turn at all. I unplugged the stove and plugged it back in and the lights start to flash as if it was in startup mode, but I don't hear the auger going or the pellets dropping. Any ideas?

Rob, any possibility you went down to heat level 1 without setting the convection fan on override, on some stoves this can cause a high temperature trip?

I don't think so. I don't even know how to do the fan override. I unplugged the stove and it all seems to be running fine except the auger isn't turning to drop the pellets. At first I thought it got too hot and may have shut down, but it's been off now for a few minutes and cooling down and I can't get it to run again. Not a good night for this to happen since it's supposed to be like 9 degrees.

I would go looking for the high temperature shut down section of the manual and see what it takes to reset the unit.

The two things that normally shut the auger down are a loss of vacuum or high temperature limit exceeded.

If the combustion fan starts up you likely have vacuum leaving the high temperature possibility.

ETA: On some stoves the door being ajar or the hopper being open.

High temperature warning says a couple of the lights will flash. The lights on mine right now are acting as if everything was OK. The auger light comes on every few seconds as if it was dropping pellets, but none are dropping. Almost sounds like the auger motor just bit the dust out of the blue like that?

Yes but how do you reset the high temperature error????

That is the question that light is saying the control board is sending the voltage, but that doesn't mean the limit switch is letting it through nor does it mean that control is seeing an error.

Mine will error out on out of fuel if I start the stove up after having a high temp shutdown and not reseting it. Light for auger comes on just no auger turning.

I don't see anything in the manual about resetting it. I've never had this issue in the 4 years i've had the stove. Usually unplugging it and plugging it back in fixes any issues.

Page 7 of the manual says the high limit switch is a manual reset snap disc.

You'll need to unplug the stove, then find two orange wires these go to the high limit switch, this switch is likely going to be on the heat exchanger. It will have a little red buton that you'll have to press, it should go in with a weak click and stay in.

How many yrs old is your stove? I have newer one that has a sensor on the hopper lid. Sometimes a pellet can get stuck in it. If the sensor isn't closed...it will not allow the auger to move. The sensor makes a clicking noise when you open and close the hopper lid.

Oh man that was it! Thanks so much! I guess I feel stupid now but that just saved me a bunch of money! Thank you SOOO much!

I think what happened was while burning on high, i pressed the on/off button by accident which dropped pellets for 2 minutes straight like in startup mode. And since the fire was already so hot and on high, it tripped as it got too hot. Thanks again. My wife says I should kiss your feet as she was getting cold :)

glad that worked
