Just saw some of thse at lowes and have never heard of them. Did a search and didn't find anything, does anyone know anything about them? They are made in NY.
Thanks

They are just re-bagged Currans.....not a very good pellet unless you get them VERY cheap. I got about 35 bags from a friend who didn't want them either, and at best, a shoulder season pellet. Not much heat output.

What da ya mean you didn't find nothin? ;-)

Jay, that's a code phrase that means "I'll say I searched, but I'm too lazy to really do it, so I'll get the forum members to do it for me".

I just typed "North American pellets" into search and I also got MANY hits.

If you can't find them here? They either don't exist or are so new to market we just aint seen them yet! But it's pretty rare with all these pigs that hang here! :cheese: :p

Thanks jay, and to the other guy thanks for you help lol. I did a search but if that rep y of yours made you feel better good.

yeah, my 2 cents. I had to take them out of the hopper, didn't generate enough heat for these past cold days. My green supreams are much hottter than these. I'll save them for the end of season

Heat output of these isn't the best but they are "average" I would say. I got 3 tons of these things for a pretty good price. My stove likes them - the ash is VERY light and my burn pot stays clean for much longer. I just run at a higher heat setting (and in the end, yes, use more pellets) when I need the heat. I won't rave about them, but they are "good" pellets.

When you say they are rebagged Currans...which Currans? Hardwood or hardwood/softwood?

I'd say by the smell soft wood or a hardwood/soft mix. They kick out the ash for me also

The Curran hardwood/softwood blend, and these burn quiet nicely in my stove, a bit ashy, but my glass stays clean, and I get reasonable shoulder pellet heat from them.

I bought a ton of these about 2 weeks ago and have been burning them since. I have a Harman P61, so it will pretty much burn anything. I got them from TSC locally for $214/ton and prior to that I was burning Instant Heat Pellets I also got locally from TSC.

The heat output for me is fine, I burned them through the most recent cold snap and they did fine. I turned up the stove and let it crank anyway. The ash is fluffy and they seem to generate more than some but less than others.

All in all, for what I paid for them I am happy. I wouldnt pay much more than $220 per ton for them, but there arent many pellets I have burned that are worth shelling out big bucks for anyway.

Hardwood

I would guess Hardwood also, just based on my observations. I started out the season with 2 tons of Curran Hardwood and 2 tons of Curran Hardwood/Soft mix delivered. The Curran mix burns about 10 degrees hotter than the Curran hardwoods in my stove. I've also been burning their re-badged label, North Americans which you can find in the big box stores and they are right on par with the Hardwoods temp-wise.

Stopped at Home Depot to pick up a couple bags of rock salt today at lunch and saw that they had North Americans for $3.90/bag ($195 /ton) - couldn't resist and I picked up 4 bags! I've been doing this sporadically since October to replenish my piggy-pellet stash, which is now a lot bigger than it should be by now - wife probably thinks the pellet stove burns one bag a week!

It says on the bag of North Americans that they are a hardwood/softwood mix, this would lead me to believe that its the Curran mix also....just a thought.

$195 per ton? I would be a buyer again at that price, for that price I can handle the little more ash they put out.

My bad, I just checked my new bags (as well as some of the older ones) - yes, they do state hard/soft mix on them. Interesting because they definitely don't burn as hot as the official Curran hard/soft mix in my stove, which logically I have to assume that there are more differences that just the bag. Maybe Curran has more than one hard/soft mixes and use the premium stuff for their own label, re-bagging the less than premium for the big box stores?

Many find this pellet too ashy, I would agree that I seem to get a little more with these, but seeing that I have a large stove/large ash bin and empty it out every weekend regardless - this is not an issue at all, cleaned out the exhaust pipe last weekend after about a ton of these and build-up wasn't either.

I picked up the two bags I tried at Lowes, and the bag did say hardwood/softwood blend.
I didn't check for a premium label, but I can say the pellets were all of consistent smaller premium size, like dare I say Okanagans.
The ones I had burned 10* hotter than Green Supreme, but 10* less than AWF in my stove.
Ash amount was noticeably more than AWF, yet only slightly more than Green supreme, but was light and fluffy.
Less build up in the burn pot, and kept the glass cleaner longer were also a plus with these pellets in my stove.
I think it's fair to say that all stoves burn differently, so try a few bags to be sure you like them, but I know this is the normal recommendation.

I picked these up at Lowes too for under $4 a bag. They were all that was left. I burned them for a week after I had totally cleaned my stove. I was wondering why my flame didn't look right. I had my first clinkers in 4 years of running my stove! After running it another day, I found the same thing. I know all stoves are different, but the St. Croix Versa Grate system works well in avoiding the clinkers on all other pellets I have used. I think I am going to mix these with hardwood pellets until I am through them.

I bought four bags of these and would buy them again. Nice fluffy ash and no buildup on the bottom of my burn pot.
