Not hearing too much from PE people...are you happy with them???

Not much to reprot but I have a PE Vista Classic at my cottage. It gets fired on the weekends. I end up with ashes behind the stove that must blow out the air intake at the rear once it cools down. I am shopping for a new stove for my basement but it will be used mainly on weekends too so I decided I would pass on the PE's. No real complaints with the stove though and our local PE dealer is awesome with service, etc....

Good advice... it makes a world of difference when you have good people to work with! Especially when their local!!!

We have a store that's been around a long time and they sell PE along with Jotul. And others... and they have been installing & sweeping since the late 70's.

So far I like my T-5.. Last night it was 10 degrees and windy and the stove heated my home easily.. Loaded with wood around 8 PM and came down 8 hrs. later, upstairs was 70 degrees and downstairs was 72.. Still had tons of coals and stove relit by just raking coals and adding full size wood.. Left for work 1/2 later and stove was rolling along.. 10 hour burns are easy to do with this stove and it is easy to learn plus holds heat for a really long time.. I will also add that the blower is quiet and effective.. FYI my home is 1600+ sq. ft. with lots of windows..

To happy not having a hard time with it.

I can reload on 8-10 hours, and it'll take off.

Heating about 1300 SF of 2000 SF house. The 13 is on a lower level, and takes care of the rest. House temps were 72F this Am, with outside temps at 8F.

I'm happy. The stove cruises on dry fire wood. Loves it.

My little T4 is great.

Picked due to it's close clearances, and it looks pretty too. It's been heating my 1000sf townhouse for almost a year. No problems except for my installer, who seems to know far less than I about installing ICC Excel chimney, good thing I was there to ensure he followed the manual (that I gave him a week before he installed).

Professionally installed, check. WETT inspected (Canada), check. No problem getting it added to my insurance, check.

Super 27 here and no problems either. Great stove, easy to learn and use, and no prob getting 8-10 hour burns. As someone else said though (as with any stove) dry wood is the key.

After I installed my damper I am happy with the Summit.

Did you just install the damper and what did it do for you?

Getting some good responses on the PE's! I am curious about the damper also...the store I dealt with today said they did'nt believe in putting in dampers if the stove has air control. Responses on that?

That's a new one, I am not even sure it would be possible to suck ashes up through the secondary combustion system and have them come out of the secondary air inlet.

I have had it in there since last year but did not start using it until this year with the new chimney, hotter stove top temps and longer heat cycles. Not everyone needs a damper but will work for some, great for over firing issues if you have too much draft, I think it is better than modifying your stove like some do.

It's a good idea with a tall chimney, DASKY who is a member of this site and installs stoves recomends a damper for a chimney over 20 feet.

I agree your solution is the sensible one and will not void your warranty..

So far I have been very pleased with the performance of my T6 no problems at all with 12 hours between reloads with plenty of coals. I really like the convective nature of this stove design also as it lends itself to very even heat distribution in the house. A lot of other stove seem to throw the fans on as an after thought.

Third season and we are liking our T6 a lot. It has been trouble-free and a nice looking heater that is very easy to run under a wide range of heating needs. Our next door neighbor's success with their Spectrum helped convince me to go PE.

My Super 27 puts out lots of heat. It is unforgiving of less than perfect wood, but that is normal. It heats a 2000 sq ft house with ease up to around -10C (thats when the Enviro gets turned on). As with others, 8 to 10 hour burns on a full load with the air turned all the way down. I'm always impressed how "slow and lazy" the flame appears, but still produces no visible smoke outside and doesn't dirty up the glass.

We liked the Super 27 so much that we bought one for the living room and one for the downstairs (replaced a coal stove). I can't compare the Super 27 to other wood stoves since it is the first wood-only stove that we have owned. When we were stove shopping, we looked at Jotul, Osburn, Quadrafire, Harman and some others. None of the local shops had PE. Someone on this site suggested PE and we checked out the stoves on their web site. I liked the look of the Super and wanted a pedestal and large ash pan. The stainless steel baffle is a plus since I didn't want to risk damaging the baffles on stoves that have tubes. We saw the PE Spectrum in action at a friend's house and found that a local shop sells PE even though they didn't have any in their store (they do now). Our friend is a long time wood burner and said how efficient his PE stove is compared to other stoves that he has owned. We heat 99.9% with wood and haven't burnt a drop of oil in nearly two years. Talk about reducing your dependence on foreign oil. Our home has never been more comfortable.

When I pull out my ash drawer I can look right out the approximately 3" hole in the rear heat shield where an OAK would install (per manual). I am thinking that the ashes might be blowing out that hole from the ash pan. I am still investigating the ashes behind the stove. It bothers me and I am not sure where they are coming from but if there were any hot ashes in my ash drawer it could be dangerous.

4th year with the summit .... Did someone say they like dry wood? This is by far the best wood I have burned an my stove likes to go 700-800 no matter what I do... On a full load I can 12+ hrs if 300 is the magic number .. anything below 400 doesn't work for me so I get 10-12 hrs depending on what wood I use ... All bets are off if I use black locust ... No telling how long it will burn!
For my setup I am happy... I really like equinox/progress hybrid/ and blaze king but don't have that kinda cash for the basement ... Will try to get my hands on a 30 for the basement
All in all I am happy

Just put one in. Even if you never use it. Good insurance
