Feeling the Heat

I have the 30 in the basement and the 13 in the living room. Both are putting out incredible heat. Both stoves thrive in extreme cold spells.
Tonight I let it crank a bit and the 30 is putting out so much heat that when I opened the door and walked by my pants singed. Had to back off and cool off. Just got a 12 hr burn last night by putting in 2 large rounds that were extra dry plus several Eco Bricks ( I'm starting to really appreciate them ). Last night after getting it roaring I shut it down to where the tip of the silver spring handle was even with the lip edge. It cruised all night and when I got up this am i checked it and saw that I did not need to add any wood. I let it burn for another 4 hours until I had room for more big rounds.

The 13 optimizes a bit different for me than the 30. I just fill it about 2/3 full and let it burn down to almost empty before refilling it.
Of course the biggest factor this year is *very* dry wood and starting last week have been using ECO-Bricks to allow me to burn clean with less air.

Wish I had a BK or some other good CAT stove to compare to but it seems that when the temps are really cold these pipe stoves are hard to beat.

I've found a happy groove.

Glad you are enjoying it. The past two days were the coldest it has been in CT. I finally feel like the stove is running and happy. The moderate temps make for an okay burn, but these cold temps let the stove stretch it's legs. Dry wood is great isn't it:)!

What kind of burn times are you getting from that 13?

Depends. 6-8 hours depending on the load. 300 reload temp.

Not bad for such a small firebox.

It seems the 13 is a 30 with about 8-10" of the front chopped off.

I dont get long burn times with the 30 cuz of all the pine and soft wood i burn. I do have a stash of SEASONED OAK for special occasions.

4-6 hrs of usable heat but have gone as much as 8-10hrs and been able to light off on the coals.

Its not an overnight-er and that's why i don't sleep in the NC-13 room cause I have to get up to add wood if I do.

I just went 14 hours and was able to reload on hot coals. Stove top 200. Not usable heat for the whole house, but the room living room was still nice.

Im considering a 13 for a 600Sf apartment. If it puts out enough heat ill try to heat the one Above it as well (600SF) But i do need it to run overnight.
Im thinking the 30 is just too big for the small space.
