I am new to this and researching my first pellet stove insert and currently looking at the Harman P35i or the Lopi Pioneer...since this would be placed in fireplace which is right in the center of our living room and kitchen/dining area the question has come up - How often do you have to clean the glass so it is not darkened/black in appearance?

I saw the post below on what people use but did not see a lot about how often this may need to be done (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, etc..)

Thanks!

I am cleaning my glass every 2-3 days. I try not to let it bother me, but it does.

I agree! Every 2-3 days.

I am cleaning my P35i about once a day, but I am anal about clear glass.

About once a week when my wife starts bitching............ well, about the glass, that is. :cheese:

Once a day but I wipe it with a dry paper towel
but some pellets leave a tan film that won't wipe
off with the dry towel and I'm not shutting down
daily so sometimes the haze remains for a couple
weeks. Doesn't bother me at all.

I clean the glass once a week when I clean the stove -- by day 5 or 6, it's not super pretty. If you're really worried about the glass, you're going to want to wipe it down every day or two.

Wait, you're supposed to clean these things? :eek:hh: crap!

Once a week...But if you burn mine on level 3 or above, the glass stay pretty clean!! Came home yesterday and the wife had it 79 degrees on the main floor...I said its freakin' hot in here, she said not to me!!!

Pretty much a weekly thing.

Our little stove will need the glass cleaned Bi weekly if we want a clear picture.

This all depends on how hot you run the stove, the design and effectiveness of the air wash system in the door.

The fuel type and how much residue there is in the exhaust gasses coming off the fire.

Some stoves will see a slow build up of a soft brown to gray soot, while others may see a blackish film develop on the glass.

Using the nut shells as we do, the glass will get a coating of a light tan to brown film.
This is due mostly to the residue left from the small pieces of nut meats that are mixed into the shells.

Good O'l SOS pad takes care of the crud right quick.
