Is the Pacific Energy unit the only one who has a steel top?

no... Lopi, Avalon, Harman, Englander, Napoleon, Enviro.... the list goes on and on.....

I think he meant a stove that doesnt use tubes but has the stainless steel secondary box with holes so as not to have to worry about hitting the baffles and tubes when loading wood.

My Century has that. The company was reorganized so I don't know if they are still doing the same stuff.

Matt

There you go...yes...sorry...I meant the reburn top... Thanx....it's not tubes is it? It's more like a box I think.

There are various forms of secondary manifold systems. Some use tubes, others use stepped up racks, PE uses a stainless, insulated box, Napoleon uses a rectangular top manifold with side jets, etc. All get the job done.

While you have been looking have you read about the Englander VL17? For your setup that sounds like a nice affordable fit.

Also note that PE makes a Tue North economy line with tubes instead of the stainless box. It is a decent stove from the reports we are starting to get in.

Well Begreen...the looking is over...My wife & I purchased a Pacific Energy Super 27 today. I want to thank all involved...including Precaud... and I'm not being a smart _ _ _. But I will never forget the looks of the mysterious looking Jotul Black Bear that my wife even liked the looks...of course it had a black bear on the side. It's too bad that stove was too big...I probably would have gone for it. I'm not to shy about sticking up for an underdog. Now it's on to piping. I'm sure there's a safe way to do this...but when it cost's as much as the stove.... Hmmm. Something does'nt seem right there.

I think some Osburns and Drolets have a similar s/s baffle system to PE?

Your right, both brands come from SBI (Stove Builder International).

Congratulations! I hope you have weather cold enough to cure the paint and see how the stove performs. It was 55 and sunny in PA today. No long sleeves needed to take down the Christmas lights. You'll have lots of fans on this site if you post some pictures of the new stove. :)

Congrats!!

Nice Choice

What options did you get as I was looking they have a few to choose from, did you get it from a local dealer?

You are not going to be disappointed !!

Congrats !! We need pics :)

Congrats Neumsky that's a good choice.. PE makes a very attractive steel stove.. The Super 27 has the same size firebox as the T-5..

?? I thought they were conventional tube secondary system stoves. Which model?

Now Jeff, congratulations! That sounds like a serious heater. Take some pictures to share with us if you can. Look on Ebay for prices on insulated liner kits, install yourself! Many threads here to guide you through a proper installation. You should be able to save a boatload of cash!
I too love the look of the black bear, but this PE should not disappoint you. I hope it gives you and the wife many warm year of service!

I have the Osburn 2400 and it has tubes. I wish it had the steel box like PE stoves. That sounds cool and less of a hassel to clean. As far as performance goes, the tubes certainly get it done.

Oops, check out the large Drolets, (Austral. Legend, Myriad etc.), they are stainless steel baffle plates and a neighbor here has an Osburn with the same thing.
