I am looking into adding an OAK to my Harman Accentra Insert. and need help I have a Zero clearence box that backs up to my garage and out of the top of the clearence box i have a 3 inch vent pipe My stove was installed professionally and i would like to install the oak my self but i am not sure what to do.
I think i would have to run another vent pipe up through my roof but i am not sure where or to what do i connect it to I just started to research this because like others i am getting a draft from inside the house and do not want to be wasting heat. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has a set up like this pictures would be awesome thanks

The best thing to do is to come up out of the enclosure turn 90 along the wall. then run to either the front or rear outside wall and install a metal drier vent outside the house. This will give you natural draft for the appliance in case of power outage. The pipe is right there in your garage so you can get to it as needed. You also have the ability once you are out of the enclosure to run 3" which will help with airflow. I would even consider rectangular venting as all you want to do is supply an outside air source to the stove.

does the pipe need to attach to the stove or just the zero clearance box. the stove is only 6 feet from the front of my house so the pipe would be short and can i enter the side of the box or does it have to be the top? thanks

Do you have the zero clearance box that came is an option with the stove?

If so then the hole is there for it in the top.

Either way get the OAK kit that is made for the stove. It attaches to the stove and allows you to pull the stove away from the frame and has the silicone gasket to seal against the frame just like the exhaust. This way you do not need to worry about the OAK when you pull the stove out for a cleaning. The pipe is attached to the frame only and the frame stays in the wall.

If you built the zero clearance yourself (dura rock double layer and insulation) then you can drill anywhere but it is a pain becuase you still want to connect to the framework and for that I recommend you install that first so you can see where it fits and how close you are to the inside surface of the enclosure.

Pictures would help.

If you attach the pipe only to the box then you will have every critter in your house and you will have a nice breeze getting in. The oak only works when connected directly to the stove otherwise it is just like opening a window next to the stove.

I have a zero clearence box that came with the stove i will look for the
area to attach it. And does the kit come with the oak to attach to the frame from the zero clearence box or is it already attached and you just need to add the vent pipe out of the zero clearance box? Do you know if there is a part number from Harman for the oak ? Thanks

Hi Local Long Islander...I posted a few pics and info on my install a few years ago. I since then removed the OAK because if was causing some issues with burning. It really is a preference on what you want to do and if it makes a difference great. I feel the distribution blower on these units are so powerful it causes a draft no matter what. The combustion blower that pulls the air in for the fire pot is not that powerful in comparison to the distribution blower. My2Cents

You buy a kit that includes an 18" horse from the stove to a new attachement you will attach to the stove base and hopper. you will also get a stub to attach to the frame. I think the kit also includes a fent for outside the house. You need to supply the hose from the frame to the vent. You will need to measure and buy the flex pipe for that.

thanks for all the help i will look for the part online if not i will call the store where i purchased the stove
