I have been trying several different brands of pellets in the new stove; Cubex, Oakies, Canawicks. There's a bunch of discussion around the forum on Barefoots, Hamers and Turmans. Are these brands available in Maine? We have another stretch of warm weather coming so I'm going to try some Green Team, Green Supreme and MWP over the next week. If some of these other "hot" brands are available, I'd like to give them a run when it gets cold again...I suspect it will.

Thanks

I've never seen Hamer's or Turmans in Maine. I did see Barefoot a couple of years ago, but none recently. Cubex and Okanagon are available if you want to pay the price. The next hottest pellet I've found has been Greene Team, which I've been burning the last 2 years. But with Lowe's new prices, I'm looking for a new pellet. I heard Canawick were pretty hot, and I can get them right down the street for $239/ton. I'll probably give them a try.

Thanks Subsailor..I burned a couple of bags of the Canawicks and thought they burned hotter than the Oakies. I think the Cubex burned hotter than both but please remember, I'm just starting so I may not be the best judge. I have a bag of Greene Team Platinum going in next. I have an opportunity to grab some MWP's at $219 delivered. Have you ever played with them...reasonable price?

Corinths are ok and Spruce Pointes burn really well for me. Knight's in Augusta has SP's. Who carries Canawicks? I just started hearing about them and would like to try a few bags.

Thanks

Paris Farmer's Union in Wnithrop has Canawicks for $239/ton picked up.

I have a ton being delivered tomorrow at the price you mentioned. You must be talking about SIB in Jay. Based on posts on here, I'm not sure what to expect. If you thought the Canawick were hotter than Oakies, I suspect I'll be trying them soon.

i bought a few bags of energex near here at nicatou stove shop in medway.
i had to have something for the day the stove got installed.
the guy doing the instal said he like those pellets. but i only had the two bags and no real knowledge then to evaluate them.
just mentioning that i did indeed see them here in maine.

Actually, Your stove is the judge you just feed it what it wants. ;-) You got to run with what your stove is telling you. Sounds like your doing just fine!

I had decent luck with the MWP, Not a bad pellet for the price IMHO. I might get some this spring.

the mwp are treating me fine. some people hate them. but i don't see it.
to be fair though, they're pretty much all i've burned since getting the stove.
but we're warm even at 10 below,.
the fines appear low by the standards i've read here. no clinkers. and yes, the price was right.
i figure these will make up the bulk of my yearly stash as i dabble with other options.
but yes, my firebox will have ash built up to the lip of the burn pot after a ful 24 hours of burning. i already clean the stove everyday though.
i just have a hard time thinking i'd pay a lot more per ton for anything.
i may end up going the route of having some few tens of bags of softies that prove themselves to me for when it gets 20 below.

or perhaps more likely i'll turn the stove up then.

Thanks for all the input. I found the Canawicks in Lisbon Falls...I think they were $255 ton. I guess Jay sums it up best..it's not about me...it's about the stove!!

Good tip on the Spruce Points...another brand I want to try!! Too bad to hear about the Barefoots...hope they crank up production. Doesn't sound good for the Hamers or the Turmans. Good to hear the news on the MWP's. I'm looking forward to running some over the next few days. If they burn well, I'm going to grab a ton....or two.

Thank You! I"m on the coast so they will most likely need more for the delivery. I know I can get them for the same price locally. Appreciate the input!!

Maine is a BIG state. I'm in Maine but 7 miles from NH. Wells Me isn't to far for me but NH is where most of my work is.
I've been doing good with Green Supreems, Green Team, Fire Sides and Natures own fuel from Canada. I just paid $3.17/bag for a dozen bags of Firesides on my way home from HD.
For me it's the way to go this year.

The hottest for my stove is to mix 50/50 of the Natures own (soft wood - black ash) with Firesides, Green Supreems, or Greene Teams.

These pellets aren't the cleanest, But at ~$3/bag when I've paid $6 for Pennigans... I can't complain. I think the listed price per bag ~$4.60

Hadn't thought much about mixing...a bunch to play with straight up!! I'll give it a try! Thanks

Tractor Supply sells Hamers all over Maine. They're just re-branded as "Hardwood Heat"

Thanks...The TSC closest to me is selling NEWP's. I'll check out a couple of other stores.

The Augusta store was selling some Hardwood Heats a month or so ago. Currently the Bangor store has a large amount of Greene Supremes, and less of their re-branded MWPs and re-branded Hamers.

I got some Hammer's at Tractor Supply in Scarborough in years past. Burn nice and low ash. It's kind of hit or miss if you can find them

Big box stores are a crap shoot as to what pellet each has at any time.

Yes, I have already noticed that's the case. The TSC around me has had three different brands in the last three weeks. Home Depot has had two different brands. Lowe's has been pretty steady with Greene Team and Greene Supreme. Home Depot had a brand called Nature's Heat which I wasn't familiar with so I didn't grab any. After further reading here, I guess there are actually Penningtons which have had some good comments around the forum. Next time by, I'll stop and see if they still have them.

Thanks

You can get Oakanagans (Okies) from SIB's in Jay - and they deliver far away at no charge. They are bringing me some LaCrete's next week, and I'm in Augusta (50 miles away) at no charge.

I've burned Cubex, which I liked, but then I tried LaCretes (a Spruce/soft wood pellet from Canada) and I really like them. They burn really well in my stove.

hey. you can get some penningtons at my local corner store for only $379.50 a ton.

well. $7.59 a bag.

There's been good reviews on pennington's? Where-where!

yeah. i know.
but i had to share because this has been my only chance to "shop" in this town.

i had to laugh.
this is kind of like what i used to call it when supermarkets would sell tiny bundles of firewood for steep prices.

i always said they were "gramming it out"
