The last time we saw our hero he had taken the bold leap of paying $94, shipping included, for a Chinese copy of the Komatsu/Jenoah/Redmax 52cc chainsaw with 18" bar. For the last two days he has been running it hard in 18" to 20" fresh white and red oak logs and it hasn't missed a beat and cuts beautifully after a hand sharpening of the Carlton K2C chain that came on it and a tuning in the cut. May not start tomorrow or it may blow up but this saw is a delight to use and eats it some wood. Fast.

More news as available.

For 94 bucks, it would be hard to go wrong.

Hmmm. :wow:

eBay. Would not suggest that anybody buy one but I had heard people talking about them being crap for years. But none of them had actually bought one and used it.

We shall see.

I talked with Big Jack tools and asked when he'd have a 62cc saw in stock. He hoped they'd be in shortly after Christmas. Still zero stock. That's the cheapo saw I wanna try out.

I would love to see a few pics of this saw.

The saw is down at the site where I am cutting but this is it.

looks like an Echo CS clone...which would not be a bad thing. I had a CS400 for a short period of time and it was a great small saw.

Thought is was a Stihl look alike
Google "made in china chain saw" lots of them out there.

The one BB posted is an Echo clone - look past the color and compare the structure/layout. They are trying to make them look like Stihls with the color...

Even the one you posted is more of an Echo layout than Stihl.

"We shall see" is just about right bb. You get what you pay for in my book. :)

No, I've seen the IPLs on the saw like BBs and my 45cc Blue Max is exactly the same, these are RedMax copies. One big difference is the outboard clutch that the Echo doesn't have, as far as I know.

I sure hope its not an Echo clone. I have my FILs CS400 at the house. That is the worst excuse for a chainsaw I have ever seen.

In my book you win some, you lose some and a few get rained out.

I'd put them all in the same family - not sure who is cloning who, but they all appear to share the same design/layout? Even has the same cut off switch... Maybe its just me and I'm going down the wrong path?

Either way should be interesting to see how well it holds up.

The manual with the saw is a word for word and picture for picture copy of the manual for the Komatsu/Zenoah/Redmax saws. A prior generation one that they don't sell anymore.

The same thing had to have happened to Komatsu that happened to Honda. Went to China to get stuff made and later decided not to and found out that since they didn't own the plants and equipment they couldn't stop the Chinese from using their designs and tooling.

Bingo....what goes to China stays in China....pretty smart of them...eh. In exchange for all that cheap labor they get the drawings/tools/etc for just about every piece of equipment in the world. Yep long term that's going to be one heck of a deal....for China.

kind of a disposable saw
like the rest of the crap from china

but it is still running well by your own admission
and you saved hundreds of dollars

maybe they are on to something

There is some treatment they don't hold up to. Like when UK Customs finds a container load of them.

Timely report. I was actually about ready to PM you about it. I have a neighbor that really has no need for any kind of a pro saw, but he has a need for a saw for emergency use (only one way in/out of tree laden area). This might just be the ticket for a time or two per year when he needs to make a couple of cuts.
