My Lopi Yankee is making a ting ting noise it is intermittent, it doesn't do it when the stove first turns on and starts it's run cycle after about a half hour it stats, when I am shutting the stove down the noise also stops as the fans still run to clear out the remaining heat/smoke.

The noise sounds like pellets dropping into the burn pot but it is consistant like something is going in a circle and hits each revolution. But after doing it 7,8,10 times it will stop for a bit and start back up. It really has me stumped.

So far I have cleaned the exhaust fan, replaced the gasket their, I have also removed the auger cover in the pellet hopper and exposed the whole auger cleaned that out, it wasn't too bad in their. I have also rotated to a different brand pellet (shot in the dark), none of that helped.

Any other ideas?

Have you made sure the convection fan squirrel cage isn't hitting inside the blower housing? The 2 blowers are the only spinning things in the stove.....

No I have not the convection fan is on the same side as the controls in the black box looking thing? It sounds like it might be coming from their but I could not figure out how to open that up. I hope you don't have to remove the whole hopper to get at it.

The Yankee is the same as the Astoria I used to have. The most you probably have to remove to get to the convection blower is the side panel (yes, the blower is on the same side as the control panel). There are 4 bolts on the base. Remove the 2 closest to the side panel. The 2 on the inside just need to be loosened and then the blower should slide out of the rubber mounts.

Look at P. 29 & 34 in the owners manual.

Thanks I will look again for what you suggested. I did take a look at the manual I think mine is different than yours pg 29 is cleaning the baffles and 34 is the door seal and alignment. But I did go through the manual and didn't see anything about how to open the convection fan. When I remove those bolts will it just open up? Is there a gasket like the exhaust blower?

I have extra exhaust gaskets but don't know if I will need to replace one for the convection fan. Sorry for all the questions.

Open up your stove. (not sure how or if your side panels come off for service?)

When you hear the clanging put your hands on things until the noise stops.

Mine did this new but the noise was constant. It sounded like a BB was stuck inside the convection blower squirrel cage. They ended up replacing the motor.

Is it more like a "tick tick tick?" My stove (not a pellet stove) frequently ticks at that point in the cycle, right as the metal starts heating up. Sometimes when I hear it doing that it's just getting REAL hot and I have to damper it down a bit. Not sure if the pellet stoves work the same way but I bet they might. It's just the metal expanding.

Hello

I have an Avalon Astoria also. The convection fan gasket does not fall apart like the exhaust gasket so you can reuse it very easily. It is actually just felt pads that you can purchase at home depot.

How did you make out? Any pics of the problem?

Well I haven't been able to figure out how to get into the convection fan area, but mine does look just like the pic you posted of yours here:

The ting ting ting noise of the most part has stopped. Someone mentioned above to move the convection fan box around a little with your hand and that seemed to take care of it. I still want to figure out how to get in their because while I clean the exhaust fan frequently I have never cleaned out the convection fan.

Just take out the one screw on the top right side and the right panel with the control board will swing open. :)

Don,

Not what I meant my fault worded that poorly. I am in their I can't figure out how to get inside the "black box" the convection fan is in.

The entire "black box" (otherwise known as the convection blower assembly) comes out together. There should be 4 bolts holding the blower case to the stove.

that is actually the sound of all the change you are saving
being dropped into the piggy bank mounted on the back of the stove
No, really

I wish :)
