Today was a milestone for me as my BK went through its first cord of wood fodder. Now granted its been a milder winter than usual but I have burned since Sept.At this rate 3 cords would be stretching it for the winter even if we get slammed with cold temps, not worrying though as I'm 3 years ahead of the game as far as wood goes.Comparing my other 4 woodstoves I've so far burned only half of what they would have and we've stayed plenty warm.

That is GREAT MAN gotta love that feeling! Winter has been a blessing for us mid-westerners our wood consumption this year is waaaaayyyyyy down compared to all our previous stoves as well. i still want snow however this is just depressing to sit by the window in front of the wood stove in MI and see grass. It is good to hear your stove is a winner ohlongarm congrats....

ohlongarm - I just finished up my last split from Cord #1 pile yesturday. Like you, I'll be looking at a surplus at the end of the burn season!

I'd have to check but I'm into it around 1.5-2 cords so far. Only another 3.5 months to go haha.

Sounds great.
Down side is now you'll have to cut less wood to replenish what you used.
I bet the "honey do list" has plenty on it now that you'll have the time. LOL

Filled King at 9:00 pm Sunday, stat set on "2", stovetop north of 600 F, outside temp in 20's F.

5:00 pm Monday, stovetop 375 F, house 76 F.

7:00 pm Monday, turned stat to "3.5" - full air, bank coals forward towards door 3 times between 7:00 and refill. House went from 76 F to 81 F in 2.5 hours, opened window.

Refilled King at 11:45 pm Monday, stovetop before loading 450 F (from raking coals to front of stove & running air at full open for 4.5 hrs), outside temp 20's F. I would have liked to have burned the coals down for another hour or two, but I had to go to bed.

Tonight: repeat.

Hard maple, oak, ash, hickory (I have no "junk" wood for milder temps).

The math works out to 27 hours of VERY MEANINGFUL heat for this cycle.

Of course, I don't have to bore you BK owners with any of this... so I'll end it here.

Don't have a BK but I'm in about the same boat as you. I have been heating since the end of October and have yet to burn through a cord. I stacked one cord right next to our wood door and there is probably enough to get us another week or so. This year might set the record for the least amount of wood required to heat the house!

I really have no idea how much I've burned. I have been burning the chuglies off the tops of my stacks, saving the nice stuff to pack the stove in winter. Also have a stack that had a bunch of twisted up splits and crooked 2-4" rounds. That's what I burn when I'm home, and I let wife burn the good stuff when I'm gone. I'm 3-4 years out now so I'm a lot pickier. Good year to clean up the stacks.
I will say I'm burning half, or less, of what I was in the furnace. Lots of factors involved, not just changing heaters. I do kinda miss my basement being in the upper 60s all the time.
