Feeling the Heat

i normally run my room blower on 9 no matter what heat setting i am running
the stove at to try and push the heat to the far end of the house.

well last night, i,m laying in bed thinking....with the blower on 9, is that to high of a setting ?
what i mean is..by being so high, is the blower actually cooling the heated air a little bit
before it gets to the room ???.would i be better leaving it at say...5 or 6 ????

opinions ???

the faster the fan is running, the cooler the air is discharged.

but the room air exchange rate is better.

try a lower setting and see if you like it.

I usually run my fan 1 or 2 settings above my heat setting. I am on a programmable t-stat. WHen it's really cold out I will be running 8 or 9 heat and always 9 fan. If it warms up outside I will go to 4 or 5 heat and 6 or 7 fan. I find that works pretty good for me.

Point #1 - The air coming out of the blower will never be colder than the air going into the blower. It may feel that way, because it's moving faster, but it isn't actually cooler.

Point #2 - If the heat range remains constant, the temperature of the air coming out of the blower at 9 will be lower than the temp at 6. However, the air is moving at a higher rate of speed

Point #3 - If the heat range remains constant, the amount of heat that is put into your room at 9 is higher than the heat at 6. The cooler air running over the heat exchanger allows the heat to transfer out of the stove faster (Engineering Thermodynamics). And the higher flow volume of air quickly remove the heat from the exchanger.

Now the real question is whether the amount of extra heat that is stripped at blower speed 9 is worth the cost of the extra electricity that you use.

If you want a warm spot in your house close to the stove, run it on a lower speed. If you want to move more air and spread the heat around the house, put the blower on 9.

It really comes down to whatever makes you feel most comfortable :)

thank you for the responces...
tonight after a cleaning i,m going to try and leave the blower down a bit
and see if i can notice a differance

If you look at at manual they tell you to leave the feed and air at the same rate. That said I usually leave the convection fan set 1 above the the feed rate.

I run mine at the same rate, I raised it to see if it would raise the room temp and did not notice a difference.

i leave mine on 9 no matter what the feed setting. figure with all the dust and stuff that gets stuck to the room fan like a magnet, its not running truly at 9 anyway. unless you've just cleaned it out.

My feed rate is set at 2 & I normally keep convection blower at 9.
Now after reading this thread, I lowered it to 4 and within minutes my room(3) temps started to drop off.
I went back to 9 & will keep it set high 6-9.
My normal feed rates are 1 or 2, so I can't see lowering the blower speed to 3-4.
