Feeling the Heat

Hello all,

I finally got my stove, a little late, and probably should have waited till next year at this point. :) I went with the Enviro Milan. I attached pics so hopefully they work out. So far not so good but it's only been a day. This morning the fire was out and the burn pot was full but I'm sure some tinkering and better pellets will get rid of that issue. That is not my question......yet.

My question and problem is this....I thought I could block out the noise the stove makes even though it would be right next to me. My assumption was that I've always had Window AC's running and it never bothered me, I just blocked out the sound. However, the sound the stove makes is maddening. It is bothering me more than I ever thought it would. I may get used to it with time but was wondering if anyone else had this issue. As you can see, the end of the couch in the pic, the stove is right next to me. Is there anyway to dampen the sound? This does not have a fan control only heat control. Although I understand that even with a fan control the sound does not lesson.

Any suggestion are appreciated... or maybe someone else went through this and got used to it. I don't know, but it's not like I can return the stove because I can't deal with the noise. SO, I need to do something.

Thanks

Louder home theater?

Seriously is it air noise or like rattling?

If it is the normal noise of the auger dropping pellets into the burn pot then I can say it bothered me as well at first. I've had my stove running since the end of November and I am already used to it. As a result of heating with the stove I now leave my bedroom door open and I actually enjoy hearing that familiar pellet drop. By now if I don't hear it I think something is wrong and tend to get up to check if the stove is still running. Again if it is a rattle or something like that then there is probably a fix for it that one of the helpful members of this site will get you through. Good luck and enjoy! The insert looks great and you hopefully you will find that you made the right choice!

The home theater is as loud as it gets... :)

The noise is not rattling, it's a constant hum from the blower or combustion fan or whatever it is. I'm 100% sure it is normal noise that the stove is suppose to make. The auger and pellets dropping doesn't bother me, just the constant hum/ fan noise.

You'll get used to it. I was in your shoes as well. Seemed ok during the day, but once it got quiet at night the stove seemed incredibly loud, and I was seriously concerned. 1 month later...I wake up when I hear it run out of pellets. Not running? Can't sleep without that hum downstairs. TV watching requires a slightly louder volume setting, but I barely even notice it anymore. It's started to bother me again lately because I have it off during the day because it's so warm, but I'm sure I'll get used to it again this weekend. No worries. Give it a month. That, or get some good ear plugs.

Here's hoping that I get used to it buddy because I'm also seriously concerned. I can't bring it back.. I can sell it used at a loss but I would also lose the money I paid for installation. These probably seems harsh but right now I don't think I can live with that noise. I'm hearing what I hoped to hear, that people get used it, so hopefully that will be the case with me.

How close is your to where you sit to watch TV?

Yeah, you'll quickly get used to constant fan noise - it'll become background "white noise" and you'll be fine in a week or two. What's harder to get used to is the noise of pellets dropping and the auger running since those are cyclical noises.

Since you're used to window AC unit fan noise, I bet it won't take long to get used to the pellet stove fan noise.

Mine is immediately next to the t.v. in between the t.v. and my t.v.-watching couch. Volume is raised a couple notches, otherwise the fan noise is just white noise. Stick with it!

When I first started using mine, I also had a concern about the continual fan hum, but 4 years later and hundreds of dollars saved in oil bills, it just doesn't matter anymore, I got use to the hum and the savings.

I think my stove is broken, I can't hear any of these noises.

My humidifier, on the other hand, is a different story.

I can sleep 18 inches from my stove, it's not in my bedroom.

Thanks for the responses. I guess this is a wait and see thing.... Funny thing is my wife says it doesn't bother her at all...... she said she doesn't notice the sound at all?? Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I'll give it time and wont do anything drastic yet. Stay tuned. There may be a used Enviro for sale in a few months though :)

Only one day..... Give it some time..

You'll get used to it and the savings.....

I have a Enviro Evolution and the fan is controlled by the heat setting.Turn the heat up and the fan increases.Yup it's annoying if you set it on high temp but on low it isn't to bad. They all make noise i guess. Some are just louder than others. One thing is it's pointing directly at you so you get the full impact of the fan.Is it possible to move the couch?

Yes, that is going to be the 1st change I make if I don't get used to it. The fireplace is in the middle of the living room, directly in the middle. I knew this could be an issue and there wouldn't be much I could do but I gambled that it wouldn't bother me. Even if I can move the couch I could only move it a couple of feet forward or back. I'll keep you all posted...

Thanks again.

Always be thankful you can hear a noise.its when you don't hear a noise you should get worried. My distribution blower has changed sounds in the last couple of weeks ,so I'II have to keep my ear open...

I don't hear the drop of pellets at all but the blower noise is always there. I have a grandfather's clock and I never hear it ring anymore. It's just something you block out. As for the blower noise, my wife and I invested in wireless headphones for the TV. Even without the stove noise in the summer, we use them all the time. Just better quality sound and you don't disturb anyone if they are reading or studying.

this is a heck of a good price on these. Same as mine. Normally they are $100 each. A charge lasts several days so you can get on cradle and a spare headset, if you so choose. Well worth it!

It took me a couple of months to get used to my stoves. I dont even hear them anymore.

Mine was real easy to get use to...I've got use to my wife snoozing on the couch every night.....ouch...

When you hear the pellets dropping, think of it as money going into the piggy bank. You'll learn to love the sound!! Haven't run the propane since the install!! The fan...I don't know...the hum of an airplane as you go on vacation with all the money you saved!!

Good Luck!!

The stove is right behind my chair. Just far enough away to be safe:)

I have an evolution EF5 on which I just put a blower speed control. Now I can run the fan at slower, quieter speed, but it obviously needs some fan at the higher settings. The box says "Solid state motor speed control, mod KBWC-15K, 5 amp-120 V.A.C." The motor says it is rated at 3 amp. $46 at an electric motor shop. Seems to work OK.

Sounds like the sound of saving money. Get use to it. for some reason i like that noise but if my oil burner turns on that noise rattles me

by the way the stoves looks great,

I'm glad I have a Harman which bottom feeds -versus the whole dropping pellets klink sound....
