So Cent ALASKA
Had to open up a trail from the shed to the house. Yesterday was warm, (39°).
Filled the wood box to get ready for the next snow storm & cold weather.

I know you probably don't want to hear this... but I wish we had some of that snow! I am tired of looking at my sled in the garage!

BEAUTIFUL picture,
Bogydave.......nice woodshed too, I'm a bit jealous........ and as Stejus stated, I would gladly take a HEAP of that snow from Alaska if mother nature would kindly bring it here to central PA........

Looks good bogydave, with the nice cold air your sending down along with the nice system kenster sent up from Texas I put the chains on the front & back tires, all set.

I think they are calling for 6 plus once this gets done, they called for 2 inches of snow today, nothing but rain & freezing rain.

Totally +1...mtns in the background look nice too... ;-)

+2 on the nice shed. Can't go cheapo on a shed with those snows you get. Do your piles of splits ever get completely covered with snow? Or do you plow along them?

Looks good Dave - how far away are those mountains in the last pic + any idea of the mountain elevation? Cheers!

I'm ready for some snow too! The front page of the Altoona Mirror had a picture of snow blowers with a lead story "Hardware stores brace for possible ice, snow". The local grocery store was very busy. I doubt that I will need to use the snow blower.

Thanks all

BW: Never been completely covered yet. This is a heavier than average snow year.
Usually the wind blows the snow away, the row of splits made a good "snow fence" & it drifts about 3' away on the "up wind" side.
The new snow today (4" so far) is a big flake powder (perfect skier snow). Over 30 MPH wind forecast tomorrow, the new snow will be gone it's so light.

NHW
Chugach Mts in the pic are a little over 5000'. 10 miles away, SSE.. My elevation is 250'±

By god, that's a nice shed. And the scenery ain't half bad, either! ;-P

Im jealous. Those pics are awesome.

+1 What an awsome view!

Dave, where at do you live? I thought you weren't too far from me? I live pretty much across the road from the Fair, hidden in the woods a bit.

I ask cause I just came in from working outside and we got maybe 1-2" since I cleaned the driveway earlier this week, nothing close to 4". The boss man did call me on my way to work and said to stay home cause it was too bad to drive. Roads were fine, but I wasn't going to argue.

Anyhow I'm going to have to snowblow a path tomorrow or this weekend to get to my woodpiles. I finally dug out the snowblower attachment to my tractor tonight and got that mostly setup. All I need to do tomorrow is get the tractor out to the back shed and hook it up.

Wasilla side of 4 corners (between Parks & Palmer Wasilla hwys)
Anchorage got hit with 8" I heard.

8" and staying home, wow if that aint a lower 48er i dont know what is!

Us real Alaskans aint afraid to drive in the snow.

Lower 47 - we don't do that in NH either! Cheers!

Better make that 46 and a half.

Awesome pics Dave. If I didn't know better I'd say zapny stacked that wood. I wonder what the milk crate is used for when your splitting? Lol...

Sounds like a little "trash talking" from our Alaskan friends! Can they see Russia from their back door? :)

Yes - Awesome pics and love the shed. You got a good supply, good toys, and look to be well prepared.

I've been reading about Cordova AK getting 18 ft of snow so far this year.

This has been our warmest winter yet.

As usual, beautiful pictures! I don't have as far to open up the snow to get to my wood shed and not that much snow YET, but you have to admit, as beautiful as your place is, the snow and cold have to be worth it. It would be for me.

Thanks.
I still like going out on the deck & looking at it full of wood. Dry & just looks good :)
Even the one side that's this years wood getting empty feels good. Looking forward to getting it filled up thru the summer & fall.

I have seen schools shut down here for a 1/4" of rain. ;)
When it rains in January & the snow packed roads become ice rinks, not much moves.

I don't think Alaskans are tougher than the lower 48'ers, maybe a little more "self reliant" with the remoteness.
Upstate NY usually gets more snow & northern Mont, ND, MN have colder temps than I do usually.
I'd say the worst part is the short daylight, but now we're are up to 6hrs & 15 min, gaining 4 min/day

1/2" of new snow, was near 0 last night.

Hey Dave, how much does the shed hold, years? That pic from the deck is "picture perfect". I bet you glance at the stacked wood more than once a day, I know I do mine. :)
