I'm wondering how far this lever protrudes out the side of the stove both open and closed. Can anyone help? I really need to know the overall width of the unit with this lever included. Lopi gives a 30" width as the spec but this is the stove body.

Thanks for any help.

I have the Endeavor, which has the same feature. When closed, all that protrudes is the metal "loop" used for opening the bypass. It might be an inch long...? When open, it's probably 10-12", just guessing. Also, as long as you meet the minimum side clearances, it won't matter.

I have the liberty and it is in my opinion the best stove out there. Just measured and when the bypass is closed, the bypass rod sticks out 2 1/2 in. When open it sticks out almost 7 in. Are you going to replace your quad 4100i with the liberty?

Well, there you have it. Don't listen to me. :p

Thanks for the answers. This confirms that it would not work for me. Yes, I was considering finding a used Liberty, removing the legs, and placing it it halfway into my fireplace. The fireplace opening is not high enough even given no legs, but I had plans to tilt the stove and get it past the opening and inside enough to get the required height (fireplace opens up higher inside), but my width was the issue. I have 33 1/2" out front, but it does begin to taper just 5 or 6" back, and the stove would need to be placed back in a bit. I thought it would be very tight with the bypass damper lever just sticking out a few inches, but any more and it would definitely not go.

Yes, I am tired of a noisy blower on my Quad insert, which has also given me numerous reliability issues in just the 5 years I've owned it, so I am always considering other options. I could also use some more size due to the home size that I am trying to heat completely with wood.

Lopi Freedom instead?

Yes, BeGreen, perhaps. I've had some issues with the blower on this unit and I don't have much confidence that it will last too much longer. I also find it too noisy given its location in my main living area. Of course, I could run it on low, but I am trying to heat my whole place. Really I am quite satisfied with the amount of heat it can throw given its size and I like loading N/S. I could always remove the insert, take off the shielded sides, and remove the front panels and it would essentially be a freestanding stove installed in the fireplace. This is one option.

I can say that the PE Summit blower is pretty quiet, accessible and that the insert heats pretty well even with the fan off. Recently there was a posting that the Freedom does a good job with the blower off too.

2 5/8 when the by-pass is in & 7 inches when out.
