Got a neighbor cutting down a lot of trees on his property, not sure of what type of wood it is....I know Willow is not one of the more favorable woods, and don't want to bother with it if it is....got plenty of wood, so I can afford to be a little picky.....just don't know what Willow looks like. Does anybody have a picture of Willow ???

SOme pics of a branch w/leaves could answer your questions. There are so many varieties of willow that trying to explain what one looks like would be futile. Easy answer is that they have long narrow serrated leaves which are 1 per stalk.

There are many types of willow. The big ones are usually either Black Willow or Weeping Willow. Weeping Willow is easy to recognize because it has long hanging (weeping) flexible branches. Black willow has thick, grooved bark that looks like a lot of other trees such as soft maples (Red and Silver), maybe like Sweetgum? They almost always grow along rivers, creeks, or swamps.

Google Black Willow or Salix nigra for pics.

We have a ton of willow also. I know willow when I pick it up. Weighs about 1/4th of what oak would weigh.

Thats what I gotta do....Google, or take pics. Don't know them (neighbors) that well, they took over the house when the Mom passed last year....they got 7 acres that looks like they are slowly clearing....I do know that it is considered wetlands.

We cut two huge willows down last summer, and they stink.....literally .......I stunk all day from cutting those beasts (not to mention one pinched my saw and destroyed it). I gave all the wood to a buddy of mine and he uses it in his outside burner, and I can tell when he's burning it because the whole neighborhood smells like urine when its burning........it is a waterhogging wood, too. Very heavy when you cut it, very light when it I seasoned. Not a very desirable firewood... :-S

pics of Willow, hmmm ...

Nope,no one posted even one. And someone with no sense of humor didn't like the one pic of Willow Rosenburg :eek:hh:

Sorry, can't fill in any more details about willow that haven't already been pontificated already

Do a Google search. Type in willow tree. Then when links come up, on the left hand side you will see a list. Second one down is Images. Click on that for images of willow.

pics of a lunch time scrounge a couple weeks ago. Didn't really want the wood but the elderly man cutting it down had no business messing with it so I hauled it off.
