My first thought is why would you....My second thought is that any one who does either works for the gov'mt or has way to much time on thier hands. I just buy'em and burn'em. When the pile inside gets low I go out and bring in more.[/quote]

Brilliant...Must have been pretty cool riding that short yellow bus to school everyday!!!

Don't work for the gov't...

You must have been in the seat behind me if you need a spreadsheet to keep track of what you burn.....

So, Mr Rocket Scientist.... Instead of being a smart-ass why dont you answer the question...

What are you trying gain by using a speadsheet...??? I don't see a point in it.

Every pellet purchase I've made has been with a checkbook. When I write the check I include: brand and qty in the register. So it has been a simple matter of reviewing the check register and making a summary. Since I stock my sheds in one ton groupings it's easy to see on hand inventory as well as figure consumption. Not many sellers of pellets here in this area, so not many different brands... Just crossed two tons usage...in this mild (so far) Jersey winter...

Okay...I realize my thinking may be a little anal...But I can keep track of how many I bought and have used in my head (If not, I can count bags). I can also remember what I paid without writing it down. I am more or less trying to get an idea of my pellet usage relative to an average daily temperature, Then compare how each brand does compared to one another.

Check Book...Now that is Old School!!! :p

H2OChild...Sounds like you burn like me, 2 tons and I've only seen a handful of cold days. It will be 73 degrees in the house and my wife will hit me with I'm chilly!!! Used to be I kept the Thermostat at 65 when we were at home during the day and 60-62 overnight when we were using propane.

Love my stove!!

At least I was the cool kid and rode in the back of the bus...And I remember you very well, You're the guy that sat in front of me that I always drooled on!!

Read my previous post and that should tell you what I am trying to accomplish!!

Don't be jealous cause I'm smarter than you!!! ;-)

Yes, I do have a spreadsheet, which includes fuel oil consumption to see how the pellets reduce oil usage.
We also dropped our thermostat down to 60 degrees so oil usage should be drastically reduced!

I like the idea of the calendar, so I will be putting one on the wall to cover cleanings and maintenance of the stove.
Good visual reference.

New to the boards and the pellet stove. I installed it myself on 31 December 2011.
Loving it so far. Wife can come home and just hit a button if she is cold, so she loves it too.

Awwwe....Now that was'nt so hard was it ? I knew you could do it.

My feeling is that there are to many variables that would go int that to get real useful info.

Yes. But after setting-up the computer and parameters, it came out looking strangely like a scrap of paper with hash marks on it with the month listed there, and total after each month:

Nice app! That would be awesome for the iPad and iPhone :)

Hmmm sounds exactly like what a government oil lacky would say.....stop trying to figure out what all this pellet stuff is about....don't tell him why we use spread sheets...that's what "they" want.....your from Maryland you say hmmmmm.....that puts you very close indeed....

I do have a spreadsheet, nothing fancy with macros or sums, just a few columns to track what I've purchased, where I bought, and what I paid.
It's my first season and I've bought lots of different pellets from several dealers, so it makes it easier to review at the end of the season.
I know I'm saving money over oil usage, the spreadsheet will help me figure out how much.

I'm not sure if I'm more offended that some of you are acting douchey, or that the douchey posts are all quoted wrong because one (or both) of you doesn't know how quote tags work.

Just my luck...Busted by the quote police!!!

Have any of you guys created a spread sheet to tally how many bags/brands of pellets you use?? I have been keeping track, but as usual have been way to lazy to create a spread sheet. If you have, are you willing to share?? If not I will put one togther at some point and share!!
Thanks in advance.

I'm mostly concerned on what I spend a year and how much I use. I've been keeping track since 2006.
Here is what I have used/spent for the last two years.

Fixed it. Watch where your quote and /quote are. When they changed the color to red they broke the /quote string.

Likely a screen capture. The program creates an image file of what is on the screen.

What Smokey said.

I did a screen print then opened Photoshop and created a new document and then did a paste. I resized it and saved as a jpg, after flattening image.

Are you guys serious? I put a mark on my calender for each bag for about the first 2 months I had my stove. Got tired of that.

Are you serious...You have a calender, Probably hanging over your Abacus!!

I'm real high tech. I put a mark on a scrap of paper for each bag burned. The paper sits in the drawer where I keep the scissors I use to cut open the top of the bag.

I bought 210 bags in September, when I'm done burning in April I'll count how many I have left. Gotta keep it simple.
