Hey everyone,

been a while since i've been on here. 2nd year running the Jotul C450 and i still love it.

One issue, my air control lever, actually air valve lever (part #17) came loose
and is pretty much just hanging there so i can't control the air. Fire is just hot coals right now and i'm going to wait until its cold
until i start messing around with it.

Has anyone experienced this and is it a quick fix?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven't looked at my oslo in a few years but I did tighten it once. I looked at the 450 schematic and it appears there is a bolt underneath that would tighten it. Check the online schematic and zero in on the lever and you'll see a hex bolt there.

Anyway, I think access is from underneath but you may have to remove the ash lip to get to it.

Looks like i have to not only remove the ash lip, but the entire blower assembly.

this could be a lengthy process. Lots of bolts in awkward places.

Don't remove any bolts! Just take the ashlip off, it's heavy but lift from the front and out it comes. Next, taking the blower assembly out just requires some strong committed tugs - it's held in by spring clips. Once it's out of the way you'll see the bolt you're after, I hope. Having that out of the way at least exposes a good bit of the air control lever/linkage.

While the blower assembly is out, take it outside and blow it out with compressed air. If you don't have any filtration around it, you'll find all kinds of stuff built up around that blower. I'm also on my 2nd year with this insert, it's become part of the family and is on its way to saving us big money this year. I've had the blower assy in and out multiple times, literally takes 10 seconds once you're used to it.

Do I tug on ONLY the blower, or the whole casing after taking off the ash lip?

Whole casing comes out as a complete unit. And look at how everything goes so that when you're putting it back in, you'll be confident enough that it's lined up right and ready for the hearty shove it takes to make those clips go back in place.

All set.

Took the casing out, pulled out farely easilu once i realized i wouldn't break anything. I tightened up the hex bolt for the lever. I also needed
to open up the access panel in the firebox because the lever came out of place.
All very easy fixes. Thanks to everyone that helped.

Glad to hear it was that easy! I had a leg up on you only because I saw my installer put it together and knew it could be pulled apart, which I have done several times now obviously.

I didn't realize you're up in Wilmington. I'm over in Hamilton. There must be a good Jotul C450 pusher/dealer around here somewhere

I have the same problem. It seems a flimsy lever, that slides the air control back back and forth. I got my C450 used, but have had to tighten at least once a week. I can live with that for the $1500 discount I got

Put a little locktite on the threads and be done with issue.

I tried that but it wobbles a lot, and still comes loose. This is basically the shape of it. It wobbles at the nut, causing the hook that slides the air cover to slip out of position.

Hello,
I know this post was years old but thank you!! I have been having trouble with the blower on my wood burning insert and was about to pay to have a tech come out when I found your post. I tried myself to remove the blower but I did not have the strength to slide the blower assembly out. My husband ended up doing it with a good tug with your advice. Also we took it outside and used leave blower on it to give it a good cleaning. It works now! You us many $$$!! Thank You!!
