As i have said before, i am a forester for a federal agency. This allows me to know where the wood is and the second they are through, since my job is to manage the loggers. This was a road daylighting/widening project. Logger did not want the hardwood, as there was not a load, and it was mostly to small.

There is a lot of elm which is what i started on, then i went to look for the oak, that i knew was there to get first.

I figured id post some pics because it did happen and i am going back tomorrow or the next day to get the rest of the oak then start whittling on the elm, as i know most wont fool with that. Much of the elm is the size that i can burn in rounds so no splitter is needed. My wood cutting budy filled up his long bed mazda as well after i called him to come help and get a load.

This is a Red oak. Did not look to see if it was Northern or Southern? HAHA thats the forester in me coming out.

Loaded and more of the wood on the road. It goes like this for 1/4 mile!

All but the first layer in the trailer is Oak. The pickup is all oak and a shirt-tail full of cherry as my grandmother would say.

Its been warm most of this week. I only had fires in the evening, once the kinding fires were to coals i would only use 3-4 medium splits to heat the house till the next day (heating bout 1500ft of my 2500feet. The highs were in 60s and nighs in the upper 40s. Thursday night got to about 27F, and bout upper 40s on fri. Last night down to about 30F. This next week looks like highs in the 50s day and night will be 30-35F.

Good for you, get it while you can!! Your ranger looks like it is maxed out!!

clemsonfor you have a great way of getting your firewood. It's already felled with roadside access to boot.

Id say a bit over max, good thing i am near a small town and basically drive 10 miles through the country. REally there was no problem stopping it, slow starts but other than that fine.

I really needed the Old brown chevy 1/2 ton, but sadly its at the farm with my 16 ft trailer too!

Nice score Clem! If that keeps up you'll need a 1-ton truck!

clemsonfor, good score. Hate to see the stuff get wasted in a chipper. Just curious (and no I'm not driving down) but is this open to the public for cutting? how do folks that need firewood know where to get some?
