Hello! After much research I think the stove for us is the RAIS Classic 106. On their website I found a lot of really good information BUT...

If we add a heat sheild to the call behind the stove (we don't have sidewalls to contend with) can we reduce the clearance from the wall to the back of the stove from 11"? They only give an 11" clearance recommendation but do not mention anywhere if you can reduce this by adding a sheild to the combustable wall behind.

We love this stove! I can bake AND grill it says! Add a screen and it becomes a fire place!

?? Do you know how long the stove will burn? Hoping it will burn 8-10 hours? at least through the night?
?? Also want to know if this stove is TOO much for our small 850 sq ft home in Crested Butte?? (where it gets to -35 at times in the winter, ofen -20 and winter lasts about 6 months - already hints of fall color around!!!

We are going to put the stove in the living/kitchen handout area (open floor plan) - this room is roughly 17 x 30. Also the stove will be near the back bed/bath room AND the stairwell! It is a great spot I think for heating the whole house, we will also install registers in the ceiling to help the heat reach the one upstairs bed and bath.

My plan is to TURN OFF THE GAS heat (ok, turn it WAY DOWN).

Any suggestions recommendation concerns etc .... WE WANT TO KNOW!!!

Thanks! Valerie

The stove will likley heat the space at your altitude. You will not get 8-10 hour burns out of it. Its only a 41,000 btu stove, and since it is one of the most efficient stoves out there, that means that the firebox is small. Most all of the rais stoves have a tiny firebox, that doesnt mean that they dont crank out the heat. You would need somting in the 3 cubic foot firebox range to get 8-10 hour burns. for comparison that would be somehting like the Jotul Firelight, or the Hearthstone Mansfield. You will get 4- 6 hour burns out of that 106.
Its definatly not to much stove, if anything is on the small side depending on your house construction.

You cant reduce clearances with a heat shield, they dont reconize NFPA211 rules.

What do you think we will experience on a day to day basis with this stove. Will the house still be warm in the morning. will it fire right back up? Can I call you??

On a day to day experence, you will have a high quality stove that looks sweet, burns short and hot, and has a lot of "wow" factor. The baking compartment is realy there to get by EPA restrictions. With that, they dont have to test here in the US. The stove is steel, it doenst retain heat that well, but it transfers heat very well. That means in the morning, if the stove has been out for very long, it will not be producing any heat, and it would be up to the construction quality of the home to determine how warm it will be when you wake up.
our typical RAIS customer is concerned with style and quality, not function. There is realy nothing else out there that looks like RAIS does, so its a trade off.

Two more things.. welcome to Hearthnet and thanks for calling back. It was nice chatting with you. Good luck on your decision!
