Heres the story, both myself and my father bought st croix prescot pellet stove the last week of november (2011). I installed mine first and it worked great. We then installed his a few days later and his would light or do anything for that matter. We returned his the following day and they gave him another one and his also has worked great. It all started a few weeks ago, my stoves control board started freezing up every other day or so. The last week it started doing it often multiple times a day. I gave the dealer a call and the service guy came out and had no idea of the problem (i feel he knows less about the stove than i do). So the next day he brought a USED control board that he said has been tested and is known to work. He said if it turns out that the board was the problem he would order a NEW one, but couldnt order it until he knew that it was the problem so i said fine. The next day sure enough it freezes up multiple times. I call him and after pleading with him he comes out to look at it and has no clue whats wrong. He said he would call the factory in the morning. I get a phone call from him this morning saying his boss (my dealer) said to just swap the stove out with a new one and they will send my stove back to st croix. While on the phone i asked him if they had one in a crate unopened, he said no they have only one left and its on the showroom floor. I then asked if it was brand new and he said 100 percent new just waiting to be sold. So i agreed and told him i would remove mine, bring it down and take the new one. Heres where the fun starts. I did all the work of unhooking mine and me and my dad loading it on my truck and headed down to swap it out. The service guy i have been dealing with had asked me earleir in the day to call 15 minutes before i got there so he could have the new stove ready. I called him from my cell on the way there and asked if HE was going to be there in 15 min. he said he will be there. I walk in and ask for him, im told HE JUST LEFT 5 MIN AGO. Red flag number one. The other guy takes me to my new stove and i noticed it had some high temp silicon on the exhaust that looked familiar. The stove had pellets and some ash in it and the silicon that MY DAD put on at his house. I check the serial number and sure as chit they are trying to give me the stove my dad bought and returned because it wouldnt run. I was in a rage that this peice of chit lied to me and took me for a fool hoping i wouldnt notice. Obviously i didnt take it and im not sure where i am at right now, because the onwer wont be there until tomorrow. So i sit here tonight with NO pellet stove for the first time in a month and a half. To say the least im pissed beyond belief. The worst thing is that the <bleep> that lied to me didnt even call to appoligize or anything. Sorry for the long post, i just need to vent!

Um just curious you aren't from Columbia county are you????

Wow, sorry to hear about that, Mach20. Here's hoping the owner will make it all right with you tomorrow. Keeping customers happy is critical to smaller businesses such as this, hopefully he realizes that!

2 faulty stoves sold by the same dealer? Weird also! Manufacturing defect?? Wonder how close the serial numbers were to each other?

2 faulty stoves in the same family? weird.
if your insinuating that its our fault, your right. I love having something i paid 3 grand for that i cant use. Unreal you would also make a great dealer

LOL, I don't think that is what he meant, Mach... considering you bought both at the same time, same dealer, I can see it happening. Probably a fluke, but possible. I'm sure it has nothing to do with your family. :)

Thinking i would contact the manufacturer about these stoves and also about the way this so called dealer has treated you.

i have contacted the sales rep in this area and he will be looking into it tomorrow

EvenTemp Inc. 402-728-5255 Worth a try!

So..... Are you done with pellets? Or is there the off chance that you will just try a different stove?

Does he carry any other brands? Enviro, Harman, Regency, Quadrafire, Lopi, Avalon, Heatilator, Etc....
Just a thought. Sorry about your experience.

I just called and talked with the Senior Tech at Fahrenheit Ind yesterday. This guy knew his $#it and we spoke on the phone for almost 2 hours. I was thoroughly impressed with his level of professionalism and his ability to cover everything and want to know every aspect of my installation.
I now have a new Combustion blower on the way (it was going) new gasket kit, foor latches, intake flapper (redesign) and a new hopper gasket. Im glad I got in contact with them.

I know its unrelated. But it kinda is. I have tried contacting Quadrafire. Others have had bad luck contacting there Manufacturer. Most say to talk to the dealer. But in some cases (Englander is another good company to talk with) you can actually talk to the people the build them and know them best (engineering stand point).

Some dealers are VERY good at what they do and how they treat you. But sometimes talking to the Manufacturer and hearing it straight from the horses mouth is even better.

Hope you get everything squared away. Looking forward to how the situation is handled.

I would be so unbelievably pi**ed off. It's bad enough the stove was faulty, but to think someone tried to pull something like giving your father's old stove back is enraging. I can take mistakes or faulty equipment, not lies. I would first meet with the owner and let him know what his worker did. That is borderline fraud. I would be really curious to see what he says. Then they need to order you a brand new stove, or if you're that mad, try and get your money back. The problem is, you still have to depend on them for warranty work for your father's stove, so unless there is an alternative, you may have to try and work with the owener. If they decide to be idiots, I would file a complaint with any and every consumer protection agency in your area. The sad part is, many people would not have been able to figure out it was the same defective stove and would have carted it home, hooked it up and been frustrated once again.

this is how our country functions at all levels now, in case no one noticed. i encounter this on 80 percent of all my transactions. i just had a battle with autobone trying to get two batteries with three year warranties replaced after onlt fourteen months use. what a nightmare. companies dont care if they lose business.

deff. not done with pellets or st croix. I loved the stove when it worked. The fact the the 2 bad stove were serial numbers 7366 and 7367 might mean something and maybe not. I am not dissapointed with the company whatsoever, everything has problems. its the dealer thats being shady.

i left out the best part, the service guy was at my house yesterday and came right out and told me that he fixed my dads first stove and sold it as new. This is why i had the old serial number in my pocket when i went down today because all i could think was that he told me that to make me think it was gone and that this one wasnt it. Your 100 percent right i know things break and i am fine with that, the fact that they tried to dick me over and lie pisses me off.

What a terrible thing to happen and to try to give you your fathers stove. Hopefully EvenTemp gets this nightmare corrected....

What a story, I wish you luck!
I bought an Englander, and have had zero problems. Granted, it has only been 18 days since firing it up!
Love the pellets and would just install a different brand if I had problems like yours.
