I just purchased my pellet insert and looking and reading at everything. I cleaned the ash pan and vaccumed everything i could see but i only burned 4 bags so it was not that dirty I am reading posts and don’t have a problem removing the plates but am concerned with brushing the vents because of the heat probe I read that you should remove the probe from the back before you brush it. or should you only do that after the 1 ton mark and can you brush it with the probe still attached thanks.

I have this stove. I clean about once every 6-7 days. I let it cool, get rid of the ash and then I scrape the pellet bowl to get rid of the creosote. I then remove the two screws below the ash pan and vacuum out the ash. I found if that build up too long the auto igniter will not work. The shop vac works perfect. I also shop vac out the creosote deposits. Hope this helps, its worked great for me and takes 10 minutes.

I do NOT remove mine and I pulled the unit out and opened the access port and inserted the brush and checked and it doesn't even come close to the probe.

Note I brush out every 2 weeks...

Harman Cleaning Instructions. Right from the Horses mouth

Yup that is the instructions and when my sensor goes I will not expect anyone else to replace it but I only remove mine once a year when I "put the stove away for the spring". Been doing this for 3 years and you would think if it is a problem then I would have caught it by now.

;-)

I clean every week and every other that includes pulling the panels and using the supplied brush on the 2 tubs. No problems and I believe another post on this noted so long as you take it easy you should be ok to leave the probe as is.

Thanks

As far as the esp probe that is mentioned, most are referring to thr free standing units where the probe is located in the exhaust tunnel that can be seen from inside the stove. You have to brush or clean past it to get tunnel clean. On the insert you cant even get close to the probe w/out pulling insert out and accessing the cleanout cover on the right side of the stove. There is no reason to remove esp to clean it or wipe it. Just brush ash off it once a year w/ your cleaning that includes pulling the unit.

you should try cleaning exchanger at two weeks of 24/7 use by scraping and vac. You will be surprised by how much it will make a diff.and increase efficiancy. You will not come in contact with ESP>

Thank you for clarifying the free standing / insert difference. As a first year owner I appreciate everyone being willing to share wisdom.
