Our gasification boiler and heat storage system has been in operation for about thirty years. For twenty of those years, so that I could be closer to my work, we moved away and rented the house out. Looking back now, it is interesting to see how that system functioned with the different operators. At the beginning of each tenancy, each were given an equal start in that they had a two year supply of dry wood in the wood shed. Three of the couples had a white collar background and had never burned or heated with wood in their lives. In these three families, the stay-at-home mom was chief operator! :) These three read the operator's manual and had complete success running the system and even mastered the required routine cleanings. One couple that had previous experience with a conventional wood stove were a disaster. The short conclusion to this story is that the ones that read the operator's manual had success.

Yep, if all else fails....read the manual!

This is the category I fall under. :)

I'm one of those who tends to read the manual after completion. More fun that way!

Yup, it's always good to eat humble pie by reading the manual when you can't figure out where you screwed up.

My wife  and editor >:-( just pointed out that she coached the girls and part of the coaching included reading the manual, and (I'll leave the rest of this out)

Its always fun to try it yourself first . Then when you end up with extra pieces in the end you have to take it apart and then follow the manual .
And I hate it when the wife says I told you so.
