I would like to install a Woodstock fireview woodstove in an existing fireplace.
Looking for ideas from others here on this forum that have done similar.
Any issues with stove weight on the area of the floor ?
The existing hearth is fairly narrow, and will need to be extended out about 8 inches to accommodate this stove
installation, and issues with extending out the hearth. Thinking about using bluestone to reface the hearth, and also face
around the fire place.

Thanks,
DPBurn

I would definitely check whats holding up the hearth underneath. Extending the hearth and adding a 500 lb stove will add a lot of stress. If it's a raised hearth over 8" you can place the stove right up to the edge since the front clearance is 8" vertical or horizontal. A couple pictures would also help us give you some ideas.

Mine went into the existing fireplace but the hearth was long enough to accommodate. There are times that I wish I had extended the hearth but we decided not to. I would recommend putting tile in front of the hearth as as added measure. I have had some sparks and coals jumps out and come close to the edge of the hearth. I am sure it is a matter of time before it happens and I know I'm safe.

The only issue I have is that I cannot prop the lid open so I take it off when I clean the cat chamber and cat.

Here's a pic of mine (I mopped the hearth right after this pic):

We added support to the floor before installing. It should not need much though as most floors can withstand that amount of weight. Still, it gives a little peace of mind to add a support.

I had a similar problem; my hearth only extends 20 ½ but it is raised 10†so I am able to satisfy the front clearance to combustibles spec.
I ended up off setting the stove 3†to the left in the hearth so the door can open up all the way. This also helps me access the T for cleaning the liner bottom up with my sooteater too.
The location of my stove is in the corner of the room so it is not very obvious that it is not centered in the hearth.

The Fireview is a great stove, good luck with your woodstove journey.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll take some pictures of my existing hearth once I can get to it... right now my carpenter has all his
equipment setup in that room. After looking at the specs for the Fireview, it looks like I'll have to extend the hearth at least 12 inches foreward. Width is not a problem. I'm considering extending outwards with a half round shape from the existing hearth, and facing with blue-stone. Spoke with my local mason today, and he's coming out tomorrow to give me some more ideas.
My carpenter says there is already some doublers under the exisiting hearth, but he will add addtional support once we have the
layout all figured out.

Thanks,
DPBurn

Attached are some pictures of the hearth ... had my carpenter & mason out today.
Will definitely need to extend the hearth outwards.
The height of the fireplace opening is 33 inches, so I don't think a Woodstock progress will fit properly, I am leaning towards
a fireview.

DP, that looks like an excellent spot for either a Fireview or Progress.

As for that 5", that need not be a problem. A progress with the plinth base or short legs is the same height as the Fireview. The plinth seems to be slow in coming but Woodstock does have the shorter legs so that you can make the exhaust come out at exactly the same height as the Fireview. Someone posted a picture of the Progress with the short legs and I think it looks better than the one with the standard long legs.

My fireplace/hearth rebuild continues, hopefully will be done this week...
This picture shows where we got to on Friday... tomorrow the Mason arrives to prep the wall,
and the carpenter starts building the hearth extension. We are facing the brick with stones,
and extending the hearth out to 44 inches, and surfacing with blue-stone.

Will post follow up pictures ....

You are to be commended for undertaking the renovation and I am looking forward to the outcome. It like that you did your homework for a safe install. Good luck. That is a great stove you are putting in there.

This is my second season with the fireview and everyone in the family loves it. The kids and my wife all keep it going 24x7. It's wonderful. I put the fire view on the hearth with no problems at all. When I built the house I had the hearth extended anticipating the stove, so I have the recommended clearance of 8in in the front. I lined my chimney with the Flex King Pro 6in SS liner and it works great. I couldn't be happier with the stove. I have pics somewhere on one of the threads here. If you can't find them, you can PM me and I'll post them again. Any questions, feel free to PM me.

Still on the fence with the model of stove I am going to get ... will definitely be a Woodstock, but I'm juggling between
the Keystone, Fireview or Progress. I have plenty of time to decide, plus I only live 45 minutes from the factory, so plan
on taking a ride up in a few weeks to see the models in person.

Going to the factory is really great. You can even pick out the particular stone you want plus see different color combinations. Then there are so many folks there with good knowledge. You will also be treated very well. Good luck and I would not wait too long because prices can change fast sometimes and the prices now are fantastic, especially on the Progress. And as I stated before, with the short legs on the Progress the flue height is the same as with the Fireview. You won't get an ash pan that way but personally, I don't want one! That was one of my fears with the Fireview as we'd never had a stove without an ash pan or grates. It proved to be nothing to be concerned with as now we prefer it without the pan. I also think the Progress looks much better without the ash pan and also looks better with the short legs. But we all have different tastes.

Nice, really nice.

Your new hearth looks Great !

How many square feet are you trying to heat ?

I remember listening to Backwoods advise, regarding getting your fire ahead of time, I found it to be very good advise.

I'm also interested to hear what you want to heat. Open floor plan? Good insulation, air seal?

BTW, I think it's going to look GREAT, whatever stove ends up there! :)

Stunning hearth. Mines under, "ten paces and fire fireview vs oslo"

Love a hearth mounted stove.

Good luck with yours.

I am heating approximately 2632 square feet.
Could close off some doors...etc.
I have ceiling fans to help distribute the heat, the celings are only 8 feet.

New floor going down in the hearth room this week, then I have some other projects to get done before I buy a new stove... so probably won't happen this heating season.

Very nice hearth.

Ok...update on this thread that I started back in January. I picked up a Woodstock Fireview from the factory back in April during their spring sale. Got it to the hearth with the help of some friends, and that is were it sat for 5 months. Yesterday a local chimney sweep installed the flue liner, and stove...so now I am ready for this coming wood heating season. Here are a few pictures of the final install., sorry for the picture quality..all I have right now is a IPod.

Lookin' good!
Is that the color of mine, the metallic blue? Probably won't be long before you're firing up in the Northeast...if you can even wait until it gets cold, that is. I think you're gonna love that stove. :)
