Hi All,

I currently have a Jotul F100 mounted in my rather small firebox (24h x 29w). Depth is no issue, as this is a fieldstone fireplace and it is cavernous. I like my F100, but I need something with a bit of a larger firebox, and something with a blower would be nice.

I have a very deep lintel (13") so an insert with an angled connector is needed.

I've seen some good reviews of the Century CW2500 and it has the angled flue connection. The price can't be beat, either.. But.. I'm wondering if I'll be disappointed going from my cast iron Jotul to the Century. The BTU ratings are higher on the Century, but then again, from what I've read, those ratings shouldnt be taken too literally.

I'm really looking for something that will accept a normal sized split. I'm forced to cut my splits in half every year just to ensure that they'll fit in my tiny firebox. It can be frustrating loading it up. A bump up in heat output would be nice, as well. My home is only about 960 sq ft, but it was built in 1750 and is in need of a house wrap.

Any thoughts on the Century? I've been looking at many different inserts and standalone stoves, but with my lintel depth, I'm limited. I'm stuck installing in my firebox, as I don't have a lot of room to hearth mount - so that cuts down my list of stove options, as well.

Thanks in advance!
Scott

Without reviewing the century specs, I would caution you to check and make sure that the century is an EPA cert stove. Century does make some that are not. Stay away from anything not EPA cert at this point.

We use our Century 2500 everyday to supplement a cold room in our house. I fire it up every evening after work. It is EPA certified. This is our first stove/insert, so I can't tell you how it will compare to your cast Jotul. Also, I don't know what a "regular sized split" is, but I don't feel like I have to split extra small or anything. I feel more like this little insert fits a fairly good sized log. My wife often will say "that's never going to fit" and sure enough, I can get it squeezed in there.
Again, I don't have any comparisons, but we enjoy our century. I'm still learning all the ins-and-out of wood burning, so I haven't fully tested the burn length. I can get it to burn for a few hours with a hot coal bed and 2 splits, but I'm too nervous of putting in more, for fear of an over-fire. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but I know I don't want it.
I also read on someones post about how Century changed the specs for the CW2500, specifically the firebox size. That probably wouldn't have changed our mind when we bought it, but it may be worth something to you.

Thanks everyone for the input and advice so far! I'm going to take a look at the Quad too. I'm probably going to stick with the Jotul for the rest of this season... That is unless I find a deal that can't be passed up. I know the Century is on sale now.. I'm guessing that should happen again maybe in the summer...
