Here I am in my living room, basking in the 51 degree air. Why, you might ask? Well, my furnace blower died last night. Why not fire up the wood stove? Because I don't have one yet! :red: I only started planning to get one a few weeks ago, so with all the education and planning and purchasing ahead of me, I hope to have one keeping me warm next winter. In the meantime, I'm here looking at all the wonderful pictures of cozy hearths and roaring fires. They give me a warm glow inside, but don't do much for my fingers and toes. Oh well, back to working on my furnace.

It'll likely take you some months to have the fuel supply ready for the new stove. No way you can rush that, but skids would help.

Look on the bright side, when you get the new motor installed that heat will feel so good. Keep your eyes open come Spring for a used stove. Around here we have many good deals in the paper come April. People decide it's warm out so they don't need a stove.

Buy one of those oil filled radiators 110 volt. I think you can get these under 50 bucks now. Those throw out heat like theres no tomorrow, Randycricketfarmer said:
Got the furnace up and running! It's nearly 60 in the house. Almost time to peal off a few layers. As for wood, I've already started. I may have 1/2 cord so far. Talked to a farmer friend this past Sunday. I asked if he had any dead/dying trees he'd like to lose. He tells me "sure, I've got 100 acres of woods and you're welcome to go scrounging". So I figure if I selectively look for very dead trees, I may have enough seasoned wood to get burning next fall.

That sucks. I put a gas stove in my house for that reason. I am always worried about losing my furnace as it's happened before. Ah

Sounds like a good time to get some bread dough mixed up, while that's raising roast off a chicken, while that is resting roast some squash, then when the bread is baking get an apple pie around and bake that too More than one way to heat a house 
This sounds like some serious inspiration for getting that stove installed!
