Hey All:

Well, the new Oslo is finally installed, and I put the first break-in fire in her.

See pics below of my previous Resolute set up, and the new stove. Can't wait to finish the break-in fires, and really get her heating.

Got the typical smoke from the paint curing...but we had a good breeze to help keep it from getting too strong.

I could hear the air pulling thru the primary hole in the bottom back...I hope this is normal?

Thanks again for all the great info in helping to decide on this stove. So far I'm very happy with the set up.

Doug

Congratulation on the new stove looks nice.

I sometimes here the air being sucked in by the draft also it causes me no problems tho.

Very nice . . . and yes . . . I often can hear the air moving through.

Very nice! Awesome mantel, also like the hipped roof house in the painting. That's really nice that you can set the stove right inside the fireplace and not have to worry about mantel clearances.

Congrats Doug,
Nice big fireplace. We had to put the short legs on ours to cram her in there!

Thanks. The mantle is only 8" deep...so it meets all the clearance requirements. The stove actually sits out of the fireplace. Ill post apic from the side.

If those are real candles, I expect they'll start to wilt...

Candles haven't melted/wilted yet. They've been there for 8 years.

It will hum like a beehive when it's open and the fire's on good.

Yes. I had to add a hearth extender to meet the required front clearances.

Its a 18 x 48 hearth extender. R0....cost about $90.

ct on the hearth extender where did you get it? I know somebody that might want that option. does it just sit on the floor or is there insulation between it and the floor?

yep. just sits on the floor. Its R0....so its a perfect insulator (well....at least in some worlds!)

Doug

With no R value I would consider a peice of cement board or micore under the hearth extender.
Make sure that hearth extender stays put and take up any carpet under it IMHO. You will find on a nice hot cruise, the spot right in front of the ash lip shadow on the floor is going to pretty hot.

I wonder if the extender is just for spark & spillage...keep the heat and carpet in mind.

Nice install BTW;-)

here are the details on the hearth extender.

my sits on wood flooring...no carpeting in the entire house! I will also have a UL listed hearth rug ON TOP of the black hearth extender.

If you're looking for increased protection in your fireplace area, then the Black HY-C Type 1 Hearth Extension - 18" x 48" is the perfect fit. It's undergone rigerous testing to become UL Listed for ember protection.

Features:

•Rectangular style
•Black hue enables it to fit into many styles of decor
•Made in the USA

Because the Black HY-C Type 1 Hearth Extension - 18" x 48" is constructed from metal and micore fiber, it's non-combustible and doesn't transfer heat. This hearth extension offers both superior protection and a fine design.

Sounds good! I could not tell from the photos that the flooring was wood.

The Oslo is a mean machine once you get the hang of her! Congrats!

Did you have the install inspected? If so, did the inspector give you any grief about the pad?

My town wouldn't accept anything that wasn't permanent/built in.

Same for my town. That rug can be easily moved, especially by kids or pets. Id put some tile down or extend the bricks if it were me.

The hearth pad is rigid and should stay in place pretty well. It can be held in place with a small screw in each corner. That usually is enough for it to pass muster with the inspector.

Exactly BeGreen. small screw in each corner and she is not going anywhere.

i had her up to 550F on the stove top, and hearth extender was warm (ie. not hot) to the touch.

I have an 3 blade eco fan on top that helps keep the air swirling...darn clever invention!

I'm thinking of getting one of those pads as well. I have the minimum clearance in front of my insert, but I want to pull the insert out more and as it is the wood floor in front of the hearth gets pretty warm. Nice pics, the install looks great.
