I noticed this morning the fiberboard baffle between manifold tube set and top opening plate above is slipping down. This is noticeable when top loading and the side handle is moved to the rear of the stove. The baffle slips down about 3" to 3 1/2" and I moved it back into position once. However, it keeps coming down and I would like to know what is supposed to hold it in place. The baffle itself seems to be in good shape. Thanks very much for your help!

Would it be possible to put a dab of furnace cement on an edge somewhere and push it back in place to help secure it?

Thanks for the reply, Pen. That might work and I'll keep it as an option. I just looked at the warranty and I believe the baffle might be covered but will know better tomorrow. Thanks again.

I'm certainly not an expert on your stove and saw your question hadn't received any replies yet so I gave the best advice I could to make sure it came to the top and wasn't lost. What I mentioned couldn't hurt, but you shouldn't have to worry about doing that in my mind (not that it is much of a bother).

Hoping another owner chimes in. However, I don't recall reading of this problem from other owners which is why I can't give you a better solution.

Please let us know what you hear from Quad about this.

Not being a top loader dude, I have never seen this problem. But according to the blow up diagram of the baffle assembly it appears to be a friction fit. If it is a bit loose, I wouldn't be afraid of trying Pen's solution. Nothing to hurt by doing it.

Diagram can be seen here:

Just a follow-up. Quadrafire told my dealer they are familiar with this problem in Isle Royale stoves. They said to use the window gasket material to shim the baffle against the fire tube assembly. My dealer did this a few days ago and so far so good. If it starts to slip again, the dealer will order another baffle but it seems to me it would probably slip again unless it's slightly thicker. I'm in the wait and see mode right now. In the meantime, the house is warm again!

I had the same problem with my Isle royale. I put small drywall screws in front and back of one of the air tubes. This worked well. I had a leak in my stove and quad swapped out my Isle Royale for a 5700. I miss the top load but love my 5700. I could never get much wood in the top but it was nice for adding a split or two at a time.

Mine has done this a couple times now. Any updates?
