Do I have to run the fan on my buck model 81 while burning? Wondered if I can just enjoy the radiant heat instead of using the blower.

If you had a power outage I bet you'd enjoy that heat. :cheese:
You'll always be able to extract more heat out of your stove by blowing air over it, but sometimes you may not want that extra heat, or the noise, and it's certainly ok not to use it.
My stove came with a blower and it was very obvious that using it warms the house up faster and warmer than not using it. However after 3 years it looks like the bearing in the blower started to get some play in them and it was making more noise than I could put up with, so I removed it and installed a quiet wall mount fan behind the stove and have been using it to blow air over the top of the stove. Man that sure works well, much better than the installed blower use to work. I don't think I'll be going back to the blower.

Thanks. I was told by someone that not running the blower would cause the motor to burn up. Someone else told me that the wood stove was built for the fan to run and not running it would overheat the unit. Neither seemed right so I thought I would check here.

Fans are optional on most stoves, not available on others, so i think it's ok to not use it.

I run my Buck 91 a lot without the fan. I definitely don't get the amount of heat out of it that I do with the fan but sometimes I don't need as much. For me it's mostly a noise issue. I don't think I'm hurting the fan any by not using it but I've not had it that long so I'll have to wait a couple of years to be sure. Most of what I've read here on this very subject is that it doesn't really hurt it, just don't get the heat moved out as much.
