Its funny, the only stove that quad makes that was quite was the 1200, the other three were noisy, quad touts that there 1200 was the only stove to pass some test in switzerland, along with another swiss stove. Hooopla IMO. But one thing for shure, you cant hear the new stoves start up, you dont here any blowers kick on, i was floored by how silent these stoves run. If these stoves work, maybe i will warm back up to pellet stoves.
 
We got pretty used to the 1200i in the living room. It was not as quiet as a silent fire, but not much noisier than the blower on several woodstoves that we auditioned before buying the Quad. When running at medium, it was very tolerable.

One thing that's important for Quad is the notion that they will be quieter. When looking at stoves, the one thing that really struck me about the Quads (at least when I saw one in action) was how much more noise there was compared to the Harmon's and the Breckwells. The Quad seemed very blast furnace like.

Well, except for the XXV, I feel the Harman pellet units arent the quietest units either. Yea, probs quieter by a bit than the Quads, but not hugely so. The distribution blower does become background noise tho, and not really noticeable after, say, a weeks time. When I heard how quiet the XXV was tho, I was amazed.....compare an XXV with a P61, like night and day.

Well, Harry, the Harmon stove I looked at was the Accentra. Aren't the Accentra and the XXV the same guts?

oooh...is this a trick question?! How can the "guts" be the same when one stove is 40,000 btu/hr (accentra),and the other is 50,000 btu/hr (XXV)? Well, the answer is NO and YES. The circuit board is the same, just different dipswitch settings. The combustion fan is the same. The distribution fan is TOTALLY different though. The feed assembly is shorter on the XXV, the heat exchanger has covers on the Accentra while the XXV has open heat exchangers....this accounts for part of the btu/hr difference. Alot of time and effort has been spent quieting the equipment in the XXV, moreso than the accentra. I dont like covered exchangers....they have a tendancy to be ignored when cleaning, and you lose efficiency. The harder it is to maintain a unit, the less likely folks will clean it well. Ive seen accentras with 2 out of the 3 heat exchange tubes on both sides plugged...stove goes out....you get the PO'd call the stoves on the fritz...you show up....show them its due to maintenance, nonwarrantee, etc...you get the picture. The hopper is slightly larger in the XXV as well.
 
I just heard that Quadrafire is hoping to maufacture 12,000 of the new Mount Vernon inserts by the end of 2006 and that 8500 of these are already pre-sold.
 
You guys that have a supply of pellets better be getting a guard dog.
 
Personally I'm giving pellets one more season. If next year the situation with pellet supply is anything but plentiful it's out with the pellet stove and in with a new wood stove and a gas stove to keep the house 55 during the day while I have my head in other peoples chimneys. I'm seeing huge interest in corn burning this year, people want a stove that can burn both, not because they think they'll save money with corn but because they're afraid they won't be able to get pellets.

The official word is 15,000. the pre buy doesnt suprise me, a dealer in grand junction pre ordered 100 stoves, and 50 inserts. Me? ordered zero stoves and zero inserts. Im going to let the new model age a bit. You do not want to be the consumer with serial number 0001

I'll second that! Let the other guy test them out! Few things rarely have glitches, especially something as redesigned as this seems to be. Might be a great unit, as with many quad units. Also figure as well, MSG, that this thing isnt gonna be available till late in the season, sales-wise. Most folks will have taken care of their needs by the time they are out. I wouldnt want to be entering spring with the Mark I Mod 1 version of this thing, especially if they make significant updates.
 
I think I will stick to that nasty old cord wood for the time being. If the supply gets down to the pallets, them and my furniture can go in the stove. Don't think they would fit in a pellet hopper. Probably feed really badly too.

Hmmm... There's a thought. Pallet Stoves. Big grinder on the top. Magnet for the nails. Grind your own pellets right into the stove just like those ritzy coffee pots do with the beans.
