I came across this while searching for pics of the Hearthstone Heritage Stove and was wondering if anyone has seen or used one of these?

Pellet Pod

The Pellet Pod (delivering pellets on demand) is a bulk wood pellet transfer solution that
automatically conveys pellets from a storage unit to a bucket installed near a pellet stove.
It eliminates the need to haul heavy bags from the garage or basement.

The above description was from 2010 The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Expo New Products List. "2010 HPBE New Products

Snip.

Haha, hauling bags of pellets is how I get my exercise in the winter! That and shoveling.

I do applaud the ingenuity but we're a pretty lazy society.

It does look interesting. Great if you can get bulk fuel in your area. But there could be a few draw backs. Like limited fuel choice and dealers that carry bulk fuel.

Maybe some day?

You know what that is? That's a whole house (central) vacuum system, that someone is running in reverse. You can buy low-mid end central vac for a little over $100. Run it in reverse, and you got yourself a pellet delivery system.

See Galaxie vacuum:

yeah, I just realized that. My next door neighbor has one (whole house vac) which I just looked at this past week.

You could probably set it up to be a pellet delivery system and a pellet stove cleaner - all in one!

I could see this to be handy for people too old or disables to haul around pellets though.. An uncle of mine comes to mind..

Hmmm thats very interesting. Right now I have tons dropped off in my garage and then my girlfriend and I carry them through the house and stack them in my basement. I carry two bags, she carries one, and we do it one ton at a time. A good work out.

The central vac system looks good, could this be done with a shop vac or two? shop vac A sucks the pellets via very long tube to a bucket, which you can use to fill the hopper? something similar?

I think you could do it with one vacuum, but have 2 hoses and an inline switch/diverter to either suck up pellets, or remove ash...

yes they are all good ideas but
why complicate such a simple system
carry bag in
dump in hopper
free

besides you could probably buy 2 ton for what it would cost to setup

You guys are going about this wrong, what you need to do is modify one of those toy helicopters with a bucket to do it.

Then have the helicopter return to it's charging station when it's done.

I am modifying the system if I can because i have a furnace and I have to carry the bags up stairs then across the house, then down stairs and back through the basement. a properly placed hole/chute/vacuum tube would save a ton of work.

As far as the helicopter, if you could work on the towing power, ROOMBA makes programmable robots. The same robots that vacuum floors can be programmed on a computer to do tasks..the same task over and over, and then return to the charging station

I think you could do it fairly cheap -

I would purchase a vacuum that has a wide diameter hose (so pellets don't get plugged) with some oomph.
You would need to wire an on/off switch at the end of the hose - or wire a switch to turn on/off an outlet that the vacuum is plugged into (so you can turn it off when the hopper's near full)

I think it's a great idea for places where you can store near your stove.

Geesh,,,, I just make sure my woman has a good breakfast and sit and watch her and the daughter unload 'em from my truck,,,,,,

with that kind of talk, you should be living in Northern Maine.

to the OP: you may consider a whole house vac, as you could then run pvc (nice and smooth vs corrugated host - preventing pellet buildup), and the hoses come with on/off switches to turn on after they are plugged into the wall.

Well, I only posted this because I thought it was an interesting idea...certainly not a practical one. Personally, I'm not going to complicate things anymore than sifting my dusty Hamers pellets. :p

I like my $30 little hand truck. Works great and I get my workout bringing in pellets.
