Check out this thread here: https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/30449/P30/ It helped me tons! I have a 60 but it's still relevant.

Also, what I've found is that my wood just isn't dry enough to create fine ash. I'm getting a lot more debris in the secondary chamber than should happen. I have to clean it every day and get about 2-3 gallons of "ash"--what you would expect from a normal wood stove. This is despite getting excellent gasification most of the time. In fact I couldn't have been prouder when I opened up the secondary chamber to show a visiting Forester my system and the thing was roaring away with a two bright blue-white jets. But quite often this isn't exactly the case.

Try the thread, make some adjustments and verify the dryness of your wood......

Hey, no problem! I find that the slightest thing can cause an EKO to skew what's worked perfectly before..... Today I forgot to close the woodshed door and a breeze was blowing in on the boiler. 5 minutes later I almost had an overheat! That extra bit of air & force cause the thing to burn unbelievably well considering I was struggling to get it up to temp before.

I've been trying to push my boiler to run wide open and not idle so I have tweaked things a bit--like altering the placement of the temp. probe to "trick" the controller to keep heating the water to 200º--and it seems like the changes in settings and the level of moisture in the wood, and the temperature of the wood put into the boiler can all effect how well it operates and how much--if any--gasification occurs.

Do you have make up air entering into the boiler room normally? I'm surprised an open door would make that kind of difference....just a thought.

The area the boiler is in is open & has enough air from a leaky barn door and hallway to be fine. The woodshed door is right in front and to the left of the boiler, so with it open and a stiff breeze blowing on the fans, they in essence worked faster, I think. I have the fans set at 50% right now because it seems to be a good balance between fuel consumption and gasification. Because of this I have the shutters at about 75% open. I think the extra air being blown over the front of the boiler just caused it to take off.....Gotta make sure it doesn't happen again though. I was lucky I caught it.

With a 60 with 2 fans this is where you should have the fans set. A 40 with 1 fan should be at 100%

I run my 60 with 1 fan at 100% when I first start the boiler, then when i get a nice bed of coals I run 1 fan at 50 to 60% with nice dry wood.

The 2 fans is way over kill for our boiler, I now always have a spare fan.

I seam to be having good luck with fan set at 70 when I ran it at 100 I get a lot of ash in the stove pipes at least that's why I think I get it in my pipes

Hey Rob, Are you saying you manually have to adjust you fans at the start of each burn?

I only have power hooked up to one fan. I just use the controller to run the fan at 100% for the first load of wood. Then I use the controller to turn it to 50 to 60% when I have a nice bed of coals to keep the coals from washing away from the nozzles. My shutter is 100% open my primaries are at 1" open not sure where I have my secondaries and it has been a long time since i messed with them.
