So with the big game starting to kick off last night(big giants fan) I lit my stove in standard issue form,... fired up the super cedars and left the door cracked...................then completely forgot about it...... by the time I smelled it it was way to late,... probe (internal) inside my single wall pipe said 1300 degrees. I paniked shut the door and slammed the air shut.....as soon as i did this the room filled up quickly with thick paint smelling smoke,.... opened the windows and soon after that the fire was almost out. I was freaking out and then realized that the paint towards the top of my single wall pipe wasnt shiny anymore. I think and hope that the smoke I saw was from that ,... it sure smelled like paint. Is there anything I should check today while the 30 sleeps?

It happens, the paint is baked. This happened to me also recently. Though not so dramatic, probe read 1100F, it did set off the smoke alarm for a couple seconds. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to have a timer, the kind that beeps until turned off, set permanently near the stove. After such incident, it's a good idea to check your underwear before it heads to the laundry. :red:

Had that happen to me once stove was 700 probe was 1300. But i did not have the paint smoke like that.

so I shouldnt worry about the integrity of the pipe at all? and Oh yeah,..... I really had to change the shorts on this one! lol

The pipe should be fine.

I doubt that that 1300 temp was even close to accurate on your single wall pipe. Probe thermometers are designed for double wall pipe and read a few hundred degrees high on single wall due to the radiant heat off the pipe.

Your shorts, not so much.

How many Super Cedars?
Thomas
Maybe you should be making them in log form.

LMAO!,.... I break them into quarters,... then use 2 of the quarters to start , I dont use kindling at all,... super cedars rock!.......well I just swept and inspected the chimney,... everything looks good. got 2 cups of creo,.. not so much coffee grounds but a few 1/4 inch flakes mixed in,... pipe looks A OK.... not to bad for having pretty much all cold starts cause its been so warm here this winter

Had one of these moments when I used a bunch of kindling sized small splits (on top of a couple of larger splits) to start up a few weeks ago. Shut my air down at about 500 probe and it just kept climbing to a little over 1100. Lesson learned, my smallest starter splits are 3-6in (as opposed to kindling sized 1-3in) now ... with a side benifit of sligtly longer burn times (a great thing with such a small stove).
