I have searched around but have not had much luck. Are there fireplaces out there that burn pellets? I want the look of a wood burning/gas fireplace that burns pellets. One that could be installed in a corner would be an added bonus.

I have seen the inserts but I wanted something that looked more like a fireplace....perhaps even with the fake logs like a gas fireplace would have.

Like this?

You're looking for a clean glass front, no metal gridding, etc? You want this, but in pellet form?

Many of the pellet stoves offer the fake logs as an option. Pick a stove you like and see what the options are.

I am running an older version of this stove without the logs. In my opinion the logs are just another place for the ash to collect.

To the best of my knowledge all pellet stoves need to be fully enclosed to be safe, and efficient.
They operate off of forced air.

I doubt you'll find an open, fireplace style pellet burning fireplace like that.

You want propane, natural gas, or standard wood burning options. Not pellets.

Yes....looking for something like thedude posted but that burns pellets.

I would think that the problem with that is that pellets don't burn like your typical fire, only a handful of them burn at a given time, and you really can't simulate the "glowing embers" portion of a fire with pellets. Maybe an "electric fireplace" might work for you?

Here's what you want if you want to keep your fireplace:

http://www.enviblocks.com/

it's a product made with the same material as a pellet, but is a larger block made for burning in a fireplace.

Obviously, with any fireplace, you lose a lot of heat up the flue, so you may want to consider getting an insert installed.

if you install a pellet stove, many inserts come with fake log inserts - such as a Harman:
http://www.harmanstoves.com/en/Products/Accentra-Pellet-Insert.aspx?

I have this model, but opted not to have the logs - as the flame on a Harman is nice (and logs just create more surface area to clean)

Right....would be hard to simulate the burning embers but still thought you could get some of the look of a fireplace but the convience of burning the pellets.

Thanks movemaine....I have seen the blocks and tried some in my wood stove but that is not what I am looking for now.

see edit.

We don't currently have a fireplace....this would be for an addition going on the house. House is currently heated with a Jotul Oslo but would need a little something for the addtion. Could do a gas stove but we already have an oil furnace as back up and don't have anything else that uses gas so don't want to have to deal with a gas tank etc. That is why we were thinking a pellet stove for the addition but wanted the look of a fire place. Don't really want to put another wood stove in. We love the wood stove but would rather just go the pellet route for the new stove.

just a suggestion.

that thing is pretty damn cool. Does it pull out to fill the hopper?

From what I've read on here and I would lean towards agreement, is the fake logs are a complete pain in the ass and way more trouble than what they're worth. Your stove will require cleaning and maintenance, why add another item to clean?

Aside from that, they all look like wood stoves to some extent. Pick one and go with it.

Fake logs are for gas.

I dunno, never checked into it.

Edit: from the operators manual: Open the front to expose the hopper door. Pull
down on the hopper door to open and fill with fuel.

Beautiful insert, but that $5,300 price tag hurts my eyes!

I have the Winslow Insert. I rarely see a flame like that! Maybe 5% of the time or when I have it on 4/5. I have learned to deal with lack of flames. Having the living room at 74 degrees helps me over the sadness!

Yeah I agree with that!

I wanted the Quad Edge-60 pellet fireplace bad.....but with that price, you will never break-even on the cost of this unit, compared to your fuel savings. I have spoken to 3 Quad dealers...none have sold a single unit. I kept on asking if they would sell me the floormodel at a steep discount...but nobody would do this. One dealer advised me to wait for Quad to discontinue it, due to slow sales, and then I might be able to negotiate a discount. Good-luck..........I bought an Ecoteck instead....for about $1800 less
