Any time it is cool or damp. But not between mid June to mid August. love the heat. Really feels good to burn bio mas and not oil. I don't know what it is, but cleaning the stove and keeping up with the little bits of wear and tear is very self rewarding.

It must be a guy thing, makes us feel useful. It is nice to be in control of something and not rely on outside help to fix it when it breaks.

From sometime in October, one stove is usually on 24/7. When it gets colder ,both stoves are running. We have had several days when both stoves were off and windows open this year. But only for a few hours. We have a propane vent less fireplace, rarely used. A fuel oil fired furnace that has not been run at all this season or last. We shut down and did stove gaskets, yearly cleaning, etc stuff, in late May last spring. Expect this year to be the same.

Well being my 1st. season with a pellet stove, I didn't vote.
I started in sept. and it is my primary heat source, so it runs 24/7 and I am gone from home 10/24.
My stove runs on 1 when gone and 2 when home. A few times cranked it up to 3 or 4 for a few hr., but got too
damn hot.
I'm sure if it was a normal cold winter, the settings would be higher, but I can't imagine going above a 5 setting, ever!
There is the weekly shut down (1-2hr) for a thorough cleaning(I'm kinda anal about that), but it will be my main heat
source, indefinitely.

I am soo hooked and lovin it!
