Feeling the Heat

Found a guy on Craigslist who was moving. He had 4 cords of wood cut last year in his garage he wanted to sell. Came today. Found a giant stack of pallets real close to home that I'll be getting more of. Third pic is where I will be piling under the deck. More pics later.

doesnt look like four cord???

I am confident it is BUT I plan to measure as I stack it. : - )

4 face....yes. 12 face? I dont' think so either. I don't think you could fit 4 full cord under your deck anyways. 24' long, 16" deep, 4' high. Well, maybe if it was stacked 8' high...

Becareful with your window...especially is the kids help! Once it gets up to that height, they like to "toss" things into place...

Wood is always good!

Can't tell for sure what it is Bill but it looks darned good. Get it stacked and then you'll also enjoy looking at it. I have a feeling you'll be ready for some serious wood burning by next fall.

Looks like you too will get just a little bit of snow and some blowing. Chilly over the weekend but warming up some again next week.

Got er done. Yep, face cord. Sauna is heating up, grab your shorts and c'mon over. The stack on the right I am going to split they felt heavy and were a little bulky.

Looks like good wood.
Lots of good BTUs, & many hours of burning
You got it stacked fast , tractor assist ?? :)
Looks like some birch, the bark is a good fire starter.

I have a Kubota bodgdave. I want to try and get it under cover soon, the sun beats up the paint and tires, etc.. It has aged quickly in appearance but starts and runs great.

Don't know why, but here in the u.p. a cord of firewood is always known to be a face cord.

Nice work BillsWS. How much did that turn out to be? What model Kubota do you have? What attachments do you have with it? Just curious. I just bought a used Kubota myself.

Just a suggestion for future years. That brick wall looks really nice, but if you continue to stake wood there it will get banged up. I'd take a pallet and stand it on edge and then stake wood. That would also alow air to move by the wall. Wood is softer than brick but.
leaddog

Id say thats no more than 2 cords. Im thinking closer to 1 3/4 cord actually.

I see a woodshed with a space for the Kubota & other stuff in your future.
Dry storage is premium !!!
Out of the suns UV for equipment storage extends the life of lots of the components.

My uncle has a JD tractor that is either 10 or 12 yrs old. He has had it since new. Its trashed from sitting outside all those years. Seat ruined even though it has a conopy, the paint is faded plastic hood randomly cracked, its trashed! At minimum get your tractor under a cover out of direct sunlight for most of the day.

Real easy. Insularity. Creatures in closed, isolated environments evolve very differently. Like, kangaroos there, horses in Europe. (Takes time. Some still don't accept what Darwin published.) Some humans just have to be different, absent legally required standards.

Seriously, it's a matter of enforceable weights & measures standards. The reason scales are inspected- sellers routinely short buyers, given any chance, even bakers with a "dozen". If A sells B something where B does not FULLY understand the unit of measure, B will likely be shorted, and never know it.

Back when, often I'd show up to deliver wood, as ordered, and hear stuff like "wow, that's more than I expected for a cord." I'd explain that my Nissan p/u could carry 1/2 cord of dry wood, and that I'd be back soon with the other half.

Some states (e.g. NY) mandate that the unit of measure is the "cord", 128 cu. ft. as stacked. So "full" means "for real." I see nothing wrong with that, and lots wrong with "face". If your "face" cord is 1/3 cord, why not just say it? Am I missing something here?

Good looking wood - some yellow birch which I really like to burn. Glad you knew it was 'face' cord, rather than a true cord - saw the pic and thought you got screwed big time. Cheers!

Looks good Bill but next time I'd leave a bit more room between the wood pile and the wall. Air circulation works best for drying. Don't want damage either.

Thanks guys, but there is two to three inches between the wall and the wood. All is not perfect with this situation but it is the first time since my OWB was removed (3 years?) that I have had the fun of handling wood. I was thinking yesterday "how come every time I stack wood there is at least one piece with a small branch hanging off of it and at least one that was a Y where one side of the Y was cut off" It felt like I spent the day with old friends. 10 years from now, things will be a lot different, guaranteed. Buy c'mon fellas, yesterday was a great day, I was stacking wood (is this a kind of puzzle addiction), do I need to say more?
