Went out this morning to split up 4 truckloads of rounds that I liberated from the local brush dump. Almost got done but with a temp of 25° and a stiff wind outta the S.W. around noon a cold beer and a hot far in the basement sounded more to my likin. Aint much to block the wind round here.

I made a pretty good dent in it. Wish I could get that 15 year old grandson who thinks he is already a man to come out and stack fer me. But alas, school, girls, and video games would probably nix that deal. 'Sides, I like the solitude of workin on a wood pile.

Up until last July the old hoghouse slab where I got some wood stacked was covered with old junk, smashed tin cans, refridgerator carcasses, rusty woven wire, you name it that was left here by a long dead previous owner. I finally got tired of lookin at the crap and got it cleaned up. I enjoy lookin at farwood much more than what was here for who knows how many years.

I thought I was bad about not throwin nothin away but the old boy who used to live here was 1 hoarding kinda guy.
Sorry bout the boring vid. This was last Easter.

Nice work butcher, SW wind and a 3 degree wind chill make my house chilly this morning.

You got yourself a real respectable looking collection of farwood there, fella. How many season's worth of BTU's all together?

Kinda hard to say seeins as this winter has been so mild around here. This is my first year with a stove that would actually heat the whole house and not just the basement. I probably used 2 coards this winter since the first of October. Wouldnt've needed to be burning as much as I did but i wanted to jump the shark on the learning curve of this new EPA mandated stove in case it did get into the minus temps all winter like a normal year round here.
I sometimes wonder if all the time and effort is worth when it comes to burning wood since we only use about 500 gallons of LP all year long even in the coldest of years. But then the wife and I are some old worn out old biker/hillbillies and we dont set our thermostate much above 60° in the winter. We dont have central air so I'm tryin to think on how to turn that wood into a coolin device this summer when it hits 98° with 90% humidity. iffn I wasnt burning wood and cuttin and splittin it and haulin it into the hooch I might be waistin my time sittin behind some neon lights somewhere waistin time and money so this is a good thang.

Nice looking chickens

I thought you were gonna pop those chickens with the 22

I ran outta daylight. Tomorrows another day. News at 11. But fer tonight its the same ole deer steaks and mashed tatties and green beans outta the garden. What a bummer huh? What is that thing they call a grocery store anyways?

nice pile o sticks there, Butcher! That looks a far cry better than the picker pile you had there before. And it now serves a meaningful purpose.......FARWOOD STORAGE!! BTW it sounds like you know how to eat, dem deer steaks sound delicious......

Love the video Butcher.
I've lived a lot of places so far in my short life. I've never lived in a place that flat! No mountains, no hills, as far as the eye can see. That would drive me insane... Ah, now your videos are starting to make sense!

Much nicer to look at.
The wood processing/storage area is set up real nice.
Good air flow & good sun & having the slab I just awesome.
Looks great, nice pictures!!
25° in the wind is not fun work weather.
The John boat would a good roof over some of the wood , tie it down real good. LOL :)

Congatulations, you have now entered the twilite zone. :)

Heres how you do the cooling thing, you close off the basemant in the summer and start a hot fire (far) and get all good and sweaty and then go upstairs, it will feel real cool.

+1 Spark!! I always tell the wife if she wants to cool off in the summer, go up in the attic for 15 minutes and come back downstairs........that's redneck central air ;-P

Butcher,

You said in your video that that old barn wasn't any good to you. Is that right?
How about selling it as barn-wood siding. Around here central Ill. I got $6 a board foot.
lot of crafters and remodlers here I guess. Anyway the farm looks good.

Welcome fellow hog house cement pad stacker. That is where I do my outside wood work as well:

Ben strippin some boards off here and there for that very same purpose. Cant get anywhere near that price around here though. I make some picture frames up from time to time outta them old ceder boards to sell or give to friends(yes I still got a few friendsLOL). Had several guys stop in that would tear it down for the lumber but I kinda have a problem with what would happen as far as liability if some fly by nighter was to get hurt out here and what kinda mess they would leave for me to clean up, i.e. take all the good stuff and leave me with a pile o crap to clean up afterwards. "Sides, I aint real particular to strangers rootin round my place. Kinda funny that way I guess.

How do you go about sellng the stuff for that good a price, have an old barn myself and would love to sell some of the siding. Checked on ebay a couple of times and did not seem to be bringing much, yu are not going to get people in this neck of the woods to pay much for barn siding, still fairly easy just to get it for free.

Around here if you can get 2 bucks a foot for 10 to 12 inch boards yer lucky. I've sold some offa craigs list but selling stuff on CL turned out to be a real PITA what with spammers, phone ringin off the hook at all hours of the day or night and a bunch of looky loos wantin to come out and just snoop around. Did I mention I dont like strangers snoopin round my hooch? Heres a pic of 1 of the frames I've built over the years outta them old boards.

What amazes me is that when you go to rippin them 100+ year old cedar boards on the tablesaw is that they look just like freshly cut wood on the inside and still have a faint aroma of cedar to them. Oh, and the scraps make awsome far starter too. Aint gotta spend no dough on fatwood here I'm tellin ya!
