Quote "Seems like a few folks on the first page of this thread had no issue with them... I still wonder if these folks doing these couple bag tests have enough to get the stove burning each new pellet they try efficiently.[/quote]

Just checked the first page . The only post i seen in favour of Woodfiber Inc Pellets was a person burning SOFTWOOD Pellets from Woodfiber Inc , NOT HARDWOOD Pellets .

I do now really thing you are a rep for Woodfiber Inc , The company with Dirty Pellets

Wood Fiber inc. pellets are so bad, they've motivated me to stop lurking and register just so I can complain about them as well!

We innocently bought a ton of these stinkers from the local Home Depot a few weeks ago....And when I say stinkers, I mean that literally. That was the first thing I noticed. They don't smell like wood at all. The closest thing I can think of to compare the odor to is is some kind of rancid oil. Our P61 seems to burn them ok, but the flame seems rather dull and dark, and consumption has definitely gone up in order to keep the house warm.

I can live with all that, but the worst thing is the output of ash. It's absolutely atrocious! The burn pot fills and clogs within a few hours, and I had to dump the ash tray after only burning a few bags. It's not a fine gray ash either, it's more heavy and blackish colored with a sandy consistency. The one good thing about all this is I'm getting to be a real pro at cleaning out my stove as it needs it several times a week now! I'm just about half way through the pile now and intend to finish them off. But after that, NO MORE! I've learned a very valuable lesson here. Buy a few bags first before you get the whole ton. That way you know what you're getting.

Listen A-holes. I do not like to be accused of something so low handed..... Why don't you do an internet search under my handle here on the forum and you find all kinds of proof as to who I am and what I do. You can also search under my name Craig Ostby. I will accept your apologies .......

Craig, no reason to be so upset. I know I could care less what brand of pellet someone buys. I am only here to share my experience burning pellets. If you love WFI, so be it. I am glad someone does as I would like to see these pellets sold out so maybe the box stores can get something better. I really don't think much of the discussion was aimed at you anyways. The point most people have made in this thread seems valid: WFI's pellets do not burn well for most people. The company's high volume approach seems to have impacted the quality. Nice Pike by the way.

OL... Sent you a PM.

Thanks to a few folks. I'm not upset but I'll be damned if I'll allow someone that doesn't even know me attack my integrity for no reason. I've read through my posts and I see no where I said anything glowing about WFI pellets other then they work okay for me. I even stated I didn't think they were the best.

The entire reason I even posted in this thread is I seen a number of posts where folks stated they bought a few bags and deemed them junk. TO ME burning a couple bags is no proper review it takes more then burning a couple bags to get the stove fine tuned for any brand pellet. Now the guy that experience a sand like substance in his burn pot obviously recieved a defective product no denying that. I bet many folks that are using higher quality pellets could get even more heat out of them if they spent the time to fine tune there stove for the pellets they use.

The fact of the matter is each pellet or substance you burn requires fine tuning of your stove to get the maximum BTU's out of them. You're never going to fine tune for the brand with a couple bags.

60 mile in the bush north west out of White River. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to get back in there off the highway. We watch Fly in planes go over our heads all week to lakes about 2 to 5 miles away. Some really good fishing but lots of work to get in there. We fish for walleye more then anything. The occasional monster Pike is just a bonus to make up for all the hammer handles that pester us while Walleye fishing.

I've burned through a large chunk of the 1 ton of WFI's (softwoods) I bought this past Fall, and they've burned perfectly fine in my case. Very few fines in the bags, and they have a nice pine/cedar aroma to them.

Seems that there were bad batches of WFI's out there, or I was one of few who lucked out with a decent batch. They are not the hottest burning pellets, but they have burned clean and produce little ash. My local HD only had the WFI's in-stock for about a month, they switched to AWF hardwoods by late November and have had them ever since, I bought a ton of those too. The AWF's are hardwood and are denser/shorter in length, but they were $1 more per bag compared to the WFI's.

Based on what I've read in this thread, I guess I would avoid WFI's in the future until any production problems were acknowledged as resolved with more consistent positive customer feedback. I've liked AWF's and would buy 1-2 tons again as they were a really good burning pellet for me this season.

Hi Chris .

It was the Woodfiber INC hardwood pellets I have had a problem with . haven't seen any softwood pellets in our area .
I decided to burn a few more bags as we are having spring like weather . They are still forming clinkers . They must have been storing them in a sand pile as my burn pot fills right up with sand

Quote "I was one of few who lucked out with a decent batch. They are not the hottest burning pellets, but they have burned clean and produce little ash. My local HD was fairly quick to replace the WFI’s with AWF pellets "

I am kind of curious though . Why would you return the WFI'S to home depot if thy werent giving you any problem ?

I think he's stating they replaced the stock on hand with AWF pellets, not his.

Yeah, sorry for the confusion. My local HD ran out of WFI's and replaced them with AWF hardwood pellets. They only had the WFI's for about a month. I still have about 15 bags or so of WFI's from the ton I purchased this past Fall.

These turds are back in the Big Rapids Menards and for 175 a ton.

now I am scared! we just bought a ton of the soft wood woodfiber pellets to use as a shoulder season pellet.

did most of you that burned these with bad results burn the hardwood pellets or softwood pellets?

also do the people that had trouble burning them have regular pellet stoves or multi fuel?

My stove is a multi fuel Quad Santa Fe that I know how to burn and maintain properly. ALL WOODFIBER PELLETS ARE CRAP. Their main problem is with the raw materials and storage of such, also I've seen large [1" x 2"] splinters in the bags. Yes, even the so called softwoods are crap as they are made the same way. To Yooper81, since you live in this area, go over to Vulan Wood Products mill just outside of Norway, MI and check their mill out and you will see how things should be done. They had a problem with long pellets several years ago, but fine since. At $155.00 a ton, early buy, there is nothing better localy.
