There was an article in today's online edition of the Bangor Daily News (bangordailynews.com) about the owners of Maine Woods Pellets, Corinth Wood Pellets and Geneva Wood Fibers meeting with an official from the USDA to convince them to promote the use of wood pellets. The owner of Northeat Pellets out of Ashland was supposed to be there as well, but he wasn't mentioned in the article. I tried to post a link, but being semi computer illiterate, I was unable to do so. It was mentioned in the article that Corinth is only running at 50% capacity, which surprised me. I've gotten the impression on here that MWP is pretty much at full capacity and they are larger than Corinth, so I would have thought they were running full out as well. I don't know what's going on with Geneva. If the USDA start telling everybody how great pellet heat is, we'll be paying as much as oil burners!

After this winter's oil prices, pellet stove use is going to sky rocket.

Thanks, Jay, but that's not the article I was referring to. At the bottom of that artitlce is a listing for Similar Articles. The article I was referring to is there.

It's the Arab Oil Cartel of the pellet world.

I am not so sure it will skyrocket, but it should increase. I hope not like it did in 2008 we both stoves and pellets were hard to come by and the prices went out of control. As I have said many times before. Pellet burning is not plug and play. The public had become use to heating a home as being as easy as turning on a thermostat and writing a check. Pellet burning is another job. The pay for this job is proportional to the effort. My experience is that new stove owners may not be well informed about what efforts are needed to be a successful pellet burner. Ergo multiple Craig's list postings.

Saw that article too, not sure if I want people to know about the beauty of pellets. Don't want another shortage like 2008. I think people should be pre-approved to be pellet stove owners, ya know, like when people adopt kids!!!

I definitely see and understand your point. The problem is when people see the cost of heating their homes and then hear about the savings to be had with a pellet stove, the wallet over rules the mind and caution goes out the door.

People advanced from throwing wood in a fireplace to throwing it in a stove. It can happen again. We didn't always just turn the dial. It's what we got used to because of the price and convenience. All it needs is a catalyst to change and today that catalyst is the cost of heating oil. Made me move on it, but as you said, I was willing to take on the added work and knowledge to make it work and pay off.

The article I read, Corinth was complaining they were operating at only half capacity, no business.

Warm winter could have a little to do with it. But I don't hear the big dogs complaining. Some just can't make enough of them.

I've gotten the impression on here that MWP is at full capacity. Maybe it's Corinth's product?

I hope they don't give the manufacturers subsidies. If they are going to spend taxpayer money to help support the industry, the money should go to the taxpayers. Rebates for stoves, grants for boiler installation in public building and non-profits. Increasing the market will help out the suppliers more than subsidizing them. jmho

Right, swaybar, the subsidies should go to the consumer. Educated consumers. Too many peeps think a pellet stove is a walk in the park. It is a lot of work, but the rewards are so soooo worth it!!

Could be price? I can get MWP for $245 and Corinth are higher at $260. Quality is similar with an edge to MWP. $265 will get me a Canadian softwood. Money matters and I choose wisely!

I really don't know what Corinth is selling for up here. I can get MWP for $219 delivered, so I'm only looking for firesale prices on other pellets.

I heard about this on the tv newscast. I am not surprised Corinth is at half-capacity.
Quite a few burners I have met are Ex-Corinth burners.
I burned them and was not impressed.
Now, I sure hope Ashland pellets get into stores here, can't wait to burn them !

The only place that I've run into Corinths around me has been at Dysart's.
Dysart's current prices are:
Athens Pellets $219/ton
Corinth Pellets $239/ton
Energex Pellets $239/ton
Ashland Pellets $239/ton
LG Pellets $359 (1.5 tons)
