Any other Afton Bay owners out there?

Do you have any tricks for keeping the baffel in place. 3 times now it has fallen in the fire. The stove keeps burning no problems.

There are no specific instructions in the manual on how to put it back. 2 screws that slide into keyholes and the back lip rests on a tiny ledge above the ceramic brick.

I really don't know what we are doing wrong, unless having the old man stomp when he walks and 3 large dogs running around just kind of jiggle it loose.

last night this happened while we were sleeping and once when we were at work. maybe the dogs are having wild parties?

Those holes are slotted... make sure you slide the baffle back after you manage to get those screws in the right place.

I cleaned my stove this afternoon and managed to get that thing in the first try... amazing.

Mine has fallen down before too when I didn't reinstall it
correctly. You can use a mirror to make sure
that the baffle is secure before firing her up.

Seems to me it could be designed better, sometimes I get it first try, sometimes I'm banging my head and cussin' for 10 minutes, seems like. BUT, it's the only complaint in 4 years, so I guess I'll live with it.

ah...so we are not the only ones! good to know. The mirror trick sounds promising.

As already said, just make sure the screw heads are in the slots, and the rear lip of the baffle is hooked over the back wall. If that's done, the baffle will not fall unless the stove is flipped over - and I think you'd notice that! :cheese:

I take mine out every few days for cleaning, and put it back by feel. You get the hang of it after a while. You can wiggle it front to back after installing to check your work. It should move very little, like 1/16" front to back if it's in right.

oh, look at all the other pretty afton bay owners!

Yeah, we must not be doing something right. It didn't fall out on the drive home in the big red turd aka the old mans F250 diesel that rides like a lumber wagon.

Be vewwy, vewwy quiet - I'm hunting a bear…. %-P

On topic - I wuz hiding behind my Croix baffle, which deflects bare (bear) ammo.

I live on a farm.

my tools of choice are duct tape and baler twine.

Mine was giving me fits today....and when it falls during a burn its obviously hot as hell.... I noticed mine is starting to warp which doesn't help reassembly at all, and pieces of the steel are flaking off....Its probably time for a new one...I might just fab one.

They're fairly inexpensive, I seem to remember seeing one for $14. plus shipping somewhere.

Speak of the devil I pulled the tube scraper tonite and BANG!!! the baffle fell down!
