Just a heads up for those of you Puget Sounders that don’t read your junk mail. McLendon Hardware is having a sale on Pacific Pellet until January 8th. A bag will go for $4.69, that’s $234.50 a ton. Regular price is $5.49/bag. At the sale price a ton will be roughly $100.00/ton less than Bear Mountain and Pacific Pellet is just as good.

I am curious. Do you ever see pellets call Natural Glow made by Blue Mt Wood Products, over your way? If so, what do they usually sell for?

I have never heard of them. I see on the web that D&B Supply sells them for $4.99/bag. D&B doesn’t have any stores in Washington. Have you used them? If so how are they?

I have used them and like them a lot. I use a lot of Blazers because HD sells them for $3.90 a bag. They seem comparable to Blazers, same heat output, but less ash. $3.70 a bag at the local Coop.

Just got back from McLendons buying some Christmas lights on sale. Checked the price of the pellets and they are $211/ton. They had some Pacific Pellets that are Juniper wood, bag says 8500BTU and "Ultra" premium instead of "Super Premium" like the Doug Fir pellets. I got a couple of bags and will see what I think.

Tanglewild Lumber, in Lacey, has Clean Burn pellets for $199 a ton.

Dave

That is what I have been paying for Clean Burn at Arrow lumber in Orting. Just brought home my second ton of the season on Monday.

I saw those Juniper mix pellets at McLendon. The gal at the counter said they were something like $6.49/bag although the sign in front of the bags said $5.49. What did you pay per bag for them? I’d be interested in hearing how you like them.

What MeLendon did you go to where the price of Pacific Pellets were $211/ton? That’s $4.22/bag, lower than the advertised price of $4.69. I got mine at the Sumner McLendons.

Roadstar...it was the Sumner McLendons. Their price per bag is usually different than price per ton. I think it was something like $4.69/bag. But the price per ton is $211. I will let you all know what I think of the Juniper pellets later this week. The temps have been so warm, I haven't been going thru many pellets. The bag says 8300BTU on the Doug Fir pellets and 8500BTU on the Juniper pellets. But, I'll measure the heat output with my convection blower thermometer and know for sure if they are really any hotter.

One thing I'm finding with the Pacific Pellet Doug Fir bags is that while they don't produce much ash, they are producing a lot more black carbon within my stove when running on low. It brushes off easily, but none of the other pellets I have burned have done this. Must be some component in their mix.

I'm done burning 2 bags of the juniper pellets. They seem to burn pretty much the same as the Doug Fir. Same heat ouput and a little more ash. Not worth paying more IMHO.

Thanks.

I appreciate the feedback.

flyn,

What the heck is Juniper wood? Never heard of it.

I don't know, but we had a lot of it in AZ. According to Pacific Pellet's bag, it is an invasive species here in the NW, so they are cutting as much of it down as possible and we get to burn it. Win-win apparently.

When I lived in Central Oregon I burned a good deal of Juniper as firewood. Great heat, very little pitch/creosote, but it made a lot of ash.

As flyn' stated, it is a invasive species that can destroy grasslands by it's ability to utilize soil moisture at a alarming rate.

Years ago the BLM would use anchor chains attached to bulldozers to tear it out. They would run through the juniper forest with a chain attached between them. Then pile up the down trees for burning. I am not sure what they do now to eradicate them, but converting them into pellets sounds like an excellent idea.

They flavor gin with juniper berries.

I believe the current regulations on clearing of forrests say that they have to recycle a huge amount including the stumps of felled timber. Huge portable grinder and blow it into chip trucks.

Just about due for a ton. I think I am going to run down to McLendon's and pick up 10 bags of Pacific Pellets. If they do well I will pick up a ton on Friday.

that is higher than Manke's dirty clean burn. 195.00 at Tanglewild in lacey ,yelm has them for 194.00.
Blazers at HD and Lowes is 208.00
Has anyone check out what the prices and brands are at our local tractor supply company stores ( Del's feed stores) ?

The problem with Del's is they sell one brand one shipment and another brand on the next. I know we have hauled into them out of three suppliers. This week at the Spanaway Del's it Lignetics.

I have been burning Manke pellets for many years. In this stove I am getting clinkers that need to be scraped out almost daily. I am trying the Pacific Pellets to see if that goes away. McLendon's seems to be all over the place with price. But if I can buy a quality pellet from them onsale I will.

I broke down this season and got a ton of Manke's and they are turning everything a nasty brownish that doesnt come off,and a hard crusty buildup on the firepot. The Blazers never do that. Let me know how you like that brand of pellet .

I am on my way home from the Puyallup McLendons with a ton of Pacific Pellets. $202.05 plus tax. Couldn't pass them up for that price!

Did they up the price? I bought two ton last month and I paid 197.50 plus tax I know it is only five dollars difference, but they do have A by the ton price or bag price and somtime's the cashier does the math on the bag price and charges a litttle extra.

To answer the other members question. I do like the pacific pellet's. I think they burn hotter than the North Idaho brand pellet's but do leave a little more ash but at the price they sell these for compared to North Idaho I am not complaining.
