I put 14 in my Fusion. 8 in the truck and 6 in the back seat. Not sure I'd push much more. But she's new and I'm babing it a little.

Stud recall. Already fixed! ;-)

Weird part was I got my old tradin for a loaner!

After seeing the cars filled up....I was just wondering what everyone else is hauling.....How much weight do you think I can safely haul in a 1/2 ton 2009 Ram truck? I have about a 20 mile drive over some hilly roads.

A big factor often overlooked is the tires. Some trucks have passenger car tires on them, which should still carry ½ ton. I had a 3/4 ton Chevy that was actually rated for 1 ton (camper model), but it had cheapo tires on it, and carrying that much weight would have been inviting disaster.
Since you have a ½ ton, you might do as I do. My car will carry ½ ton easily, so I buy the ton, get a $10 discount, and make two trips. The $10 covers the gas for both trips, about 12 miles each way.
I don't worry about the legalities of the weight since I'm within the car's limits, and God forbid I have an accident, can't be screwed for being overweight. I have a low risk tolerance, that's just me.

Most dealers won't let you near your trade-in. Guess they think that you'll get sentimental or see that the new iron isn't much better than the old.

My last 2 shopping trips, I bought 2 tons each time and made 3 trips, my job is half way to the stores so I would stop after work each day carrying 33-34 bags, roughly 1350 lbs, but hearing 1000 lbs in a sedan, I'm thinking I should be moving more?

She(service manager) didn't know it was mine. Until I returned it. I wasn't saying nada, It was the best lookin loaner they had. I could have gotten stuck with a 97 escort.

There was a much larger thread that I couldnt find in a search. Its title was something like "1 ton in my 1/2 ton pick-up"??? Along those lines anyways. There are many members that carry 1 ton in there 1/2 ton.

Is it safe? Is it legal? Is it looked down on? Take what you will from it... I have carried a ton in my 1/2 ton (03 F-150 SuperCrew FX4). Here is one I did find.

I do 25 bags in my grand cherokee... no problem. actually rides better

2009 thru early build march 2010's have bad transmissions, unless you have a standard, ever have recall 10b15?, basically a reflash of the pcm, how i know all this, work for a Ford dealer and am the Transmission magician!
also were seeing alot of left axle bushing's wearing out, you'll see a leak on the drivers side........good luck!!

I just hauled 70 bags or 2800lbs in my e350 ford van and it did not even squat that much. We just bought a new truck and needed to know actual payload capacity. I educated myself some on this. Ex. a e-350 ford van is called a "1 ton van". Its gvw is 9500# total so you take the weight of the vehicle and fuel off that figure and you get the payload capacity. Most vehicles you can go online and find the "curb weight". my curb weight w/ the deisel is around 5500-6000# which gives me 3500-4000# capacity out of a "1ton van".

My 03 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 has no issues hauling 1 ton. I laugh at people who think otherwise.
