Not white oak. I've had plenty of that. I'm in north central NJ.DMF said:Well....it's kind of hard to see. My first guess was white oak. Where are you located?
Might be a good guess there, based on the bark. Looks kinda like Pecan. Not sure about the split, but it looks like good wood to me. Below the split is a little piece of Dogwood so I'm thinking that pile is all good BTU stuff... Is this in your buddy's toss pile also?locust grove said:I think possibly some type of hickory/pecan also.
Very good woody, that is dogwood. The haul was a mix of very old oak, hickory, dogwood branches, and those unidentified rounds. Just glad they aren't poplar.Woody Stover said:Might be a good guess there, based on the bark. Looks kinda like Pecan. Not sure about the split, but it looks like good wood to me. I think its between some kind of hickory and pecan after doing a google search. If anyone can nail it, I would appreciate it.gzecc said:Very good woody, that is dogwood. Not stringy.Scotty Overkill said:Looks like the elm I cut over on the farm. Split it once, if it is really stringy and hangs together when you split it, you've got elm. I like having it in my woodpile, it's worth the hassle if you ask me.
Then I'm on board with jags......you've got pignut/mockernut.......gzecc said:Not stringy.Scotty Overkill said:Looks like the elm I cut over on the farm. The bark on the round looks like American Elm but the split is hard to tell. I think it is definitely narrowed down to Elm or Hickory and either one I'd go for more.Wood Duck said:I think that is American Elm. The bark seems to intricately patterned for Pignut Hickory. It may not have stuck together when split, but the split looks stringy to me. whether it is Elm or hickory I would go get more.
