If it seems or bark looks looks a little like white oak, and you know for sure it isnt, I would say it looks like what we have here in SC and call, "shaggy Hickory".

I'd say pecan more than hickory. It dosen't have the red/brown color variation that is typically present in all hickory that I've split.
Pecan will almost always be white throughout, and has very similar bark to hickory and is super heavy when green.

looks like hickory. what does it smell like?

Better yet what does it taste like?

Looks just like the 2 cords of hickory I just c/s/s. GOOD stuff I'm told, I'll see first hand in 2 years.

Does hickory bark fall off real easy? I got a good amount of wood that looks just like that in the pic. I can't figure out what it is even with my field guide book.

Once the beetles eat the cambium layer the bark will sheet off. I've used it to cover stacks out in the woods.
When its at that point its pretty dry and is hell on chains, but awesome firewood I save mine for the overnight burns.

Thats exactly what it does, comes off in big sheets. Thanks for the help. Got about 2 cords of the stuff. Can't wait to try it out.
