Got a lot of split 2 x 4 scrap. Been using it in my sauna heater. The glass door is getting coated pretty good with carbon. Is pine a problem to burn if you want to keep your window clean?

does the glass have an air wash to move air over the glass when burning to help keep it clean? If not, then no matter what you burn through it, it will get dirty.

If the pine os giving off gases faster than the air can burn them, maybe that is why the glass is sooting up. Pine doesn't automatically cause a problem, but maybe too much pine in small pieces is the problem.

Pine doesn't soot up glass any more than any other type of wood. The moisture content of the wood, how hot you're burning the fire, and especially whether your stove has an air-wash system are the main factors. To clean the glass use a glass cleaner made for woodstoves or use a damp newspaper dipped in the ashes.
Don't know what an air wash is. Right below the glass is the air vent that can be regulated. I leave it about half open or 40% open.

Been burning lotsa pine for nearly 40 yr. and never noticed it sooting up more than any other wood.
